Dear parents,

I hope your children enjoyed the break, and you could enjoy some quality family
time. I am looking forward to everyone returning healthy on Monday and sharing
stories from spring break. You should have received the Ronja script (please
continue to practice with your child) and also the first update on family life/
Sexualkunde.

Next week, I will send out information about the class trip to Coloma (most
important is to return medical forms) and will start sharing with the students.

You might want to ask your child:

Math:
What do I call the result of a division problem? (Quotient), what the result of
a multiplication problem? (product). Was ist eine Überschlagsrechnung (approximate
calculation: for example: 3x 418 ~ 3x 400)? Why is it helpful?

NuG:

German:
After Monday: What is our new dictation text about? Who is Ben? who is Anna?
(new novel/ Klassenlektüre: Ben liebt Anna)

PE:
How did the game go with the Umbrella that we played on our hike to Crissy Fields.

German:
I am returning the Aufsatz/ Bericht (report) on Monday. Please sign and return with
your child. Our next focus is two-fold: spelling and reading (comprehension and
exposure to different texts). For spelling, we will practice for the next dictation by
introducing the second text (Fahrradprüfung). We will also read different texts (novel:
Ben liebt Anna, poetry, short stories and focus on building vocabulary and
comprehension techniques--context, questions, key words, connections). Our
next assessment will be a dictation on April 16th (this will be an unknown text but
based on the two texts from the Igelheft: In der Jugendherberge und
Fahrradprüfung). The reading comprehension will take place on April 23rd.

Math:
We will have a quiz on measurements kg/g. (this quiz will be open book to reinforce
study skills and students can take it individually as part of their Wochenplan; it is not
a graded assessment) . The next unit is written division with the graded assessment
in late April/ early May (to be announced).

NuG:
We will continue to send weekly updates on Family Life/ Sexualkunde. Then, on April
19th, we will start our bike program in partnership with the YMCA (three Thursdays
plus a longer bike -ride at the end). Please let me know if your child does not know
how to ride a bike or does not own a bike.

PE:
We are increasing conditioning for the Presidio Trail Run, and will be doing longer
runs during Thursday PE lessons. My family will participate in the Presidio Trail Run,
and I hope to see many of you there. Thank you to Martin for organizing. For
Thursdays, please make sure your child has proper outdoor running shoes. Also,
some students do not bring clothes to change. I ask that they have at least a fresh T-
shirt to change into after PE. Thank you.

Pictures:
Last Thursday before the break, the trails were to muddy to run. Instead, we hiked
across the new bridge to Crissy Fields and took this picture that I really love.
Admiring the view of the Golden Gate Bridge, we felt deeply appreciative to be living
in such a beautiful place. The other picture shows diagrams the children made in
Math, documenting the languages spoken in our classroom (I truly love the diversity
that our families bring to our school and make us such a rich community)
