1 Scope
This Bosch−Norm determines the technical terms of delivery and additional requirements for the free−cutting
steel 11SMn30 that is not intended to be used for heat treatment. In addition to the stipulations of the order
specification all requirements of the external standard have to be met.
Typical use: Special quality for pressure−sealed components.
Note: Structure of the Bosch designation see N28 AS.
2 Material designation
This material deviates partially from the below referenced standards.
Quality standard DIN EN 10087, DIN EN 10277−3
Material abbreviation 11SMn30

4 Steel production
The melting procedure can be selected. In case of alterations of the production process, the quality assurance
guideline for suppliers has to be observed.
5 Absence of defects
5.1 General provisions
The products have to be free from defects which may impair
− the processability under real production conditions
− the use under real service conditions.
Details may be stipulated component−specific.

8 Surface types
8.1 Surface S1
Smooth, free of loose scale. In size and frequency of occurrence surface imperfections in accordance with
DIN EN ISO 8785 must not exceed state−of−the−art technology.
In accordance with DIN EN 10221 surface quality class A, surface defects are permissible only to a depth
measured from the real surface as per following table.
Max. percentage portion of the delivery quantity above the permissible depth of the discontinuities 2 %.
For this, type and extent of the required measures may be determined by the manufacturer.

over 25 to 150 0,01 x nominal thickness
8.2 Surface B2
Smooth, clean metallic surface, protected with suitable anti−rust agent.
Surface imperfections in accordance with DIN EN ISO 8785 must not exceed the state−of−the−art technology.
Surface quality class 3 in accordance with DIN EN 10277 −1 has to be met.

10 Additional requirements
10.1 Form of delivery
The straightness shall guarantee a perfect workability. Ends vertical to the bar axis. The clamping of the bars
must not be impaired by burrs or other defects or deformations at the ends of the bars. Edges of flat rods, square
bars and hexagon bars straight, sharp (completely rolled), with minimal burrs, and untwisted.
10.2 Structure
Ferrite and lamellar pearlite, no ferrite/pearlite bands which may impair the machining.
12 Further agreements
Further detail with reference to product geometry, identification, form of delivery and packaging may be
stipulated upon ordering.
