4 Steel production
The melting procedure can be selected. In case of alterations of the production process, the quality assurance
guideline for suppliers has to be observed.

5 Absence of defects
5.1 General provisions
The products have to be free from defects which may impair
− the processability under real production conditions
− the use under real service conditions.
Details may be stipulated component−specific.

5.2 Macroscopic internal defects

Macroscopic internal defects are e. g.
− nonmetallic inclusions with an area of more than 0,03 mm2 in its largest dimension
− internal discontinuities as e. g. blowholes, pores or inner cracks with an area of more than 0,03 mm2
in their largest dimension
Number and size of macroscopic internal defects must not exceed the state−of−the−art technology.
State−of−the−art measures are to be taken in order to avoid the occurrence of macroscopic internal defects.
Material with an increased risk of such defects, caused e. g. by deviating from the typical manufacturing
requirements internal to the steel mill, must not be delivered.
5.2.1 Test for internal defects
− 100% full cross−section test ultrasonic testing on the bar
− straightbeam and angledbeam testing in automatic installations by continuous application
− the amplitude height of 1,5 mm DSR (discshape reflector) that is determined by static methods is agreedas
sorting limit for internal defects
− minimum detectable defect length is 12 mm
− bars with positive indication are to be rejected
During the ultrasonic testing a sufficient corrosion protection of the bars with suitable measures must be
assured.

6 Chemical composition (product analysis)

JLO6AV 2012-05-21 NormMaster

6.1 In accordance with DIN EN 10087

Elements not listed below must not be added to the steel intentionally without approval by the orderer, with the
exception of final treatment of the melt. All adequate preparation has to be made in order to avoid the addition
of that kind of elements from the scrap and other materials used in manufacturing that impair the mechanical
properties and the usability of the steel.

8 Surface types
8.1 Surface S1
Smooth, free of loose scale. In size and frequency of occurrence surface imperfections in accordance with
DIN EN ISO 8785 must not exceed state−of−the−art technology.
In accordance with DIN EN 10221 surface quality class A, surface defects are permissible only to a depth
measured from the real surface as per following table.
Max. percentage portion of the delivery quantity above the permissible depth of the discontinuities 2 %.
For this, type and extent of the required measures may be determined by the manufacturer.
