The project would be introduced as the beginning of an inquiry-based lesson. The lesson would be about 50 minutes, using this
video demonstration. After this lesson, students will have the opportunity to create their own videos predicting the weather
patterns based off of the distribution of land and oceans. Students will work in groups of 4 and each group will be assigned a city
from around the world. The students are going to research the city to find useful information about the location on Earth in order
to make a scientific prediction of what the overall weather patterns would be. The video students will create will be a weather
forecast presenting their findings.
The students’ audience will be the entire 6th grade as their videos will be played during for all classes. Students will have 2
days to brainstorm, draft, and create a final product for their video. Students will also have the opportunity to self-assess their
own work as well as assess their peers’ work during the drafting phase. The students’ work will be assessed by the teacher based
on the content of their video and how well they have demonstrated understanding of the content.
Student Engagement/Higher-Order Thinking: What LoTi level would this lesson be and Why?
This lesson would be LoTi level 5: Expansion because the learning experience is student-centered, and students would be
using digital resources exclusively to accomplish learning outcomes beyond conventional strategies.
Importance of technology: Why is using a multimedia authoring tools critical to the project? Could the project be
completed without this technology? What would be lost without using it? What other types of technology, if any, are
going to be used in the learning experience?
Using a multimedia authoring tool is critical to this project because it allows students to create authentic products and solve
student-centered problems using all available resources. It is possible that students could create a song without using these tools
however it takes away a huge technological aspect of the project. Without the multimedia component of the lesson, the LoTi
levels would decrease from 5 to 3, students may not have the same engagement/motivation, and several opportunities for students
to show their creativity using these tools will be lost.
Inspiration (optional): If you used existing multimedia projects as a model for your project (whether in part or whole),
include the URL(s) so we can visit. Explain what concepts you “borrowed” from others. N/A
Internet Safety and Student Privacy: Briefly discuss some possible issues surrounding internet safety and student
privacy that could arise while implementing this learning experience and explain how you’d minimize risks to
students/yourself, alleviate any fears by parents/administrators, and follow school districts’ Internet Safety/Use Policy.
In order to minimize any concerns about student privacy and internet safety, students will be using computers at the school,
which should be programmed to not allow student access to unsafe browsers. Also, students will email me their final product, so
their work will be safe from exposure to an unwanted audience.
