MULTI-MEDIA AUTHORING TEMPLATE

Name:     Aaron Newton

PART A: Students can create a video over a desired math topic that we have discussed over the school year. Their task is
to create a video in order to engage other learners and to enhance a topic to make it a fun, enjoyable way to learn.
Students will then be able to share with the class their video to teach us about their chosen topic.

Grade Level:      6th Grade

Content Area:      Mathematics
Technology Used (check all that apply): Movie Audio Podcast Vodcast Other: (list)

Content Area/Grade/Standards/Topics Addressed: MGSE6.G.2 Find the volume of a right rectangular prism with
fractional edge lengths by packing it with unit cubes of the appropriate unit fraction edge lengths (1/2 u), and show that the
volume is the same as would be found by multiplying the edge lengths of the prism. Apply the formulas V = (length) x
(width) x (height) and V= (area of base) x (height) to find volumes of right rectangular prisms with fractional edge lengths
in the context of solving real-world and mathematical problems.

Brief Description of Learning Experience: Students will create a video based on what they have learned over the school
year. The teacher will be a facilitator to help bounce ideas and show students how to use technology to create movies. The
project should take 2 weeks minimum to introduce the project, and then teach the students on how to use movie editing
softwares. One week is used to shoot the videos if necessary and then the final week is to edit and share the videos with the
class.

Student-created videos are shared with the class, but they can also be shared at different school events to promote student
enhanced learning. It shows the creative side of students and also shows how technology is integrated into the classroom.
Students will be given feedback from the peers on the things they liked about the video.

Student Engagement/Higher-Order Thinking: LoTi level 5. It gives the students the ability to create and design their
own video on something they have learned or is going to teach the class about a particular topic. The students use what
they learned and apply it to using technology. The students themselves create the video and edit it to use their technology
skills.

Importance of technology: Multimedia tools are critical for this project because the students could not be able to edit their
videos and pick and choose what they wanted to share to the class. The could insert music, videos, and pictures to help
support their topic that cannot be used without technology. Could the project be completed without this technology? This
project could not be created without technology because the students have to make a video on a math topic, and technology
is required to do this.
Inspiration (optional): If you used existing multimedia projects as a model for your project (whether in part or whole),
include the URL(s) so we can visit. Explain what concepts you “borrowed” from others.
Internet Safety and Student Privacy: Briefly discuss some possible issues surrounding internet safety and student
privacy that could arise while implementing this learning experience and explain how you’d minimize risks to students/
yourself, alleviate any fears by parents/administrators, and follow school districts’ Internet Safety/Use Policy.

Internet safety should be talked about when introducing videos. Being able to have knowledge about using appropriate
videos, audios, and pictures should be addressed before the video is created. Copyright should also be addressed to students
to show that if they do not use their original work, they must show were credit is due.
