1.3. Solar Power Plant On Grid

1.3.1. System description
Solar Power Plant On Grid system / Grid Tie / Grid Connected is a system that produce electricy from
a connected Solar Panel with convensional electricity from PLN. This system is the most installed system
around the world. It can easily be found on the rooftop, building, manufacturer or on soil.

The purpose of this system is to decrease the usage of conventional electricty and to decrease the
electricity bill.

1.3.2. The working principle of Solar Power Plant On Grid

Generally, the working principle of Solar Power Plant On Grid can be explained as follow :

a. Daytime when PV Energy > Load Needed

On daytime, solar panel changes solar light into Direct Current electricity and streamed to the
inverter. The inverter changes DC into AC that sync with PLN grid. AC electricity sent to the
connected main solar panel with grid-tie inverter. Net metering counting net consumption of
electricity usage. The surplus energy produced by PV system will be re-send to PLN grid.

Figure 5 The Working Principle of Solar Power Plant On Grid at Daytime

Page |5

b. Daytime when PV Energy < Load needed

This condition can be happened if :
- It’s cloudly
- Approaching to sunset, solar panel can produce non optimal energy from the solar
c. Night time
At night time, the solar energy cannot be used again, the load automatically supplied by PLN.

1.3.3. Equipment used

The equipment used for Solar Power Plant On Grid stand of :
1) Solar Panel
Solar panel changes solar radiation become DC electricity. The generated energy fluctuated
depend on the weather condition. To receive the needed power and or the needed
electricity voltage, solar panel must be installed either series or parallel.
2) Bidirectional Inverter
Inverter is a tool that functionate to changes direct current (DC) to alternative current (AC)
so that it can be distributed and be used to fulfill the electricity needed.
3) Combiner Box
Combiner box is a panel DC that functionate to combine output from some PV strings. It
also functioned as panel issolation and protection towards surplus voltage or current and
lighting.
4) Distribution Panel
Distribution panel is a low voltage panel AC 1 phase or 3 phase. It is functioned to distribute
the power from generator to load. It stands of some output feeders.
5) Support Module

CHAPTER 2 : TECHNICAL FEASIBILITY STUDY

2.1. The Simulation Of Energy Production Of Solar Power Plant

To know the potential of solar energy production on site, it should be done the simulation using PVSyst
software. Here is the result of simulation :

Figure 6 The Simulation Of Solar Energy Production Using PVSyst

From the result above, it can be known that the average production of solar energy is 669.5 kWh/day.
Page |7

2.2. The Aspects of Energy Needs

- The capacity that can be installed on site is 620 KWP and the energy that can be produced is around :

Energy = 620 KWp x PSH

= 620 KWp x 4 hours
= 2,48 MWh

2.3. The Technical Aspects

Here is the analisys of feasibility study on Solar Power Plant site based to follow points :

a. Appropriateness of Solar Power Plant area

- Forms of land and comprehensive of area

Figure 7 The Example Of Tool Layout Planning On Site

- On site, the size of Solar Power Plant land is 189 m x 28.85 m with slope angle 15o faced
north and 189 m x 28.85 m with slope angle 15o faced south. With each comprehensives
around 5500 m2, those land is sufficient for solar panel as the example above. By that, the
land is decent for Solar Power Plant On Grid area.

- Soil conditions
The land stands on solid ground, and it is decent for Solar Power Plant On Grid
development.

b. Feasibility of loads
- Peak loads review
On Solar Power Plant’s inverter capacity calculation, it is estimated that the peak loads of
inverter probably up to 620.000 watt. This amount should be under the power capacity of
PLN grid. And by that, solar power plant that capacitied 620 KWp will be able to supply load
on site.
