Samuel Johnson, Chair of the Board of Directors

Silicon Valley Community Foundation

Dear Mr. Johnson and other members of the SVCF Board of Directors,

We, the undersigned former employees of Silicon Valley Community Foundation, stand as a united
group with many years of collective service to the institution. We each reflect a piece of SVCF's
history. Collectively, we have all experienced, witnessed, were aware of, or existed amidst abuse and
mistreatment during our time with and after our departure from SVCF.

We have felt powerless to raise these issues with the Board, and more publicly, for fear of retribution.
We are grateful for our colleagues whose brave voices lifted the veil off years of embarrassment,
shame and stress. We want to ensure abuse and mistreatment never happens again within the walls of
SVCF.

While the resignation of Mari Ellen Loijens was an important and necessary first step, what is left in
her wake is a culture shaped by inappropriate conduct and irresponsible complicit leadership.

As a matter of urgency, we believe that Emmett Carson, President & CEO, should be terminated
immediately. As the leader of the organization and the culture, Emmett did not address Mari Ellen's
inappropriate behavior and permitted the abuse to continue for years.

In light of our sincere belief that the SVCF human resource records do not accurately reflect many
important staff cases and complaints and that the Board may have been provided with misleading data
about staff departures and turnover, the following must, at a minimum, also occur:

 Employees, past and present, should be encouraged in a statement by the Board to come
forward.
 Employees, past and present, who decide to come forward to the Board and/or investigators
should be given written assurance that statements made as part of the investigation will not be
used against them - now and in the future. Those statements should be kept confidential.
 The complete results of the transparent investigation should be released to any donor or
employee, past or present, who requests a copy.

We all joined SVCF committed in public service to serving the needs of others, improving their lives
and building stronger communities. We sincerely hope in your positions of authority you will continue
to stand with us in choosing to do the same.

Sincerely,

Sabira Alloo, Business Development Officer and Philanthropy Advisor (October 2013-January 2017)
