 2.5: Use appropriate science and technology vocabulary in oral and written
communication

Time Segment Description Materials

10 Introduction Students will work in clock partners (7 Brainstorm

and manmade). 10 great group points will be
awarded to each partner for the pair that

have students list some of the flying things
they thought of.
Did anyone include parachutes? Cliff jumping?
Hovercraft? What do we consider as “flight”?
Come up with a class definition of flight.
5 Intro to definition Hand out definition sheet. Students will work Definition
sheet on creating their own definitions for scientific sheet
terms during the unit.
5 Quiz reminder Properties of air quiz will be tomorrow. It will
focus on the properties of air, the experiments
we did, some real-life examples and a little on
the scientific method.
5 Wrap Up Each student will receive a post-it note. On it, 25 post it
they can write a question they have about notes
flight or something related to flight they
would like to learn more about. They stick
these on the board before they leave for
recess.
These, along with the outcome of the class
discussion, will be used as assessment for
learning to tailor subsequent lessons to
