DETERMINATION OF LIQUID VISCOSITY BY STOCK`S METHOD

Discussion:
1. What the effect of fluid temperature on viscosity value?
gas viscosity will increase with temperature. According to the kinetic theory
of gases, viscosity should be proportional to the square root of the absolute
temperature, in practice, it increases more rapidly.
But in liquid viscosity will decrease with increasing temperature because In a
liquid there will be molecular interchange similar to those developed in a gas,
but there are additional substantial attractive, cohesive forces between the
molecules of a liquid (which are much closer together than those of a gas).
Both cohesion and molecular interchange contribute to liquid viscosity, The
impact of increasing the temperature of a liquid is to reduce the cohesive
forces while simultaneously increasing the rate of molecular interchange

2. What the effect of fluid density on viscosity value?

Viscosity is in proportional relationship with density value, it
means viscosity will increase by increasing density
3. What the effect of ball radius change on viscosity value?
Ball radius changing will not effect on the viscosity value of the
same liquid
4. What the effect of ball density on viscosity value?
Ball density changing will not effect on the viscosity value of the
same liquid
5. What the effect of ball velocity on viscosity value?
For two different liquids, viscosity is in inverse relationship with
velocity, it means liquid which has a higher velocity it will has a
lower viscosity (falling the same ball).

6. What the effect of ball weight on viscosity value?

Ball weight changing will not effect on the viscosity value of the
same liquid
7. How we can get the value of ball density?
By vernie measurement by taking its diameter and radius and
calculating ball volume by its equation

8. How we can measure the tube glass diameter?

By vernie measurement
9. What the effect of fluid quantity on ball velocity?
It doesn’t effect
10.Should the terminal velocity of two different size spheres be the
same?
11.Does a larger sphere have a higher terminal velocity?
NO it has a lower terminal velocity
12.Should the viscosity found for two different size spheres be the
same? Why or why not?
Viscosity of the same liquid will not change by changing size of
the sphere, changing size of the sphere will effect on the velocity
and density of sphere but viscosity will be the same

13.What are the shortcomings of this method?

14.Why should temperature be recorded?

Because viscosity effect by temperature
15.Can this method be used for gases?
No
