Title: Animal Abuse

How would you feel if you were skinned, burnt, or boiled alive? Many animals
are abused in a lot of different ways that you can’t possibly imagine. We have to stop it,
because it can affect not just them, but us as well. This essay will inform you about the
different ways animals are abused, how it affects them, us, and their body language.
In different places, traditions, or beliefs, there are different ways in how people
abuse animals. One type of animal abuse is fur-farming. It is when animals are skinned
alive for their fur, which is then sold or used to make goods like bags or clothes. They
also are in bad conditions after that and are left in cages to die. In an article called “11
Facts About Animal Cruelty ( )”, it states “More than 50% of the fur in the U.S. comes
from China, where millions of dogs and cats are often bled to death and skinned alive for
their fur. Chinese fur is often mislabeled, so if you wear any fur, there’s no sure way of
knowing whose skin you’re wearing.”. In addition to this, an article called “Fur farming”
states “Numerous scientific reports have indicated that serious health problems are
inherent to fur production and that animals on all fur farms have been found to exhibit
health issues as:‘…infected wounds, missing limbs from biting incidents, eye infections,
bent feet, mouth deformities, self-mutilation, cannibalism of dead siblings or offspring
and other stress-related stereotypical behaviour.’ “ This shows that this affects animals
badly and it kills many animals.
Another type of animal abuse is puppy mill or farming. This is when commercial
breeders force dogs to breed in filthy conditions, then take the puppies away to sell or to
be stuffed into small spaces. People do this because it is easy and quick, but they don’t
seem to realize that this has cruel effects on the animals. “The Hallmarks of Cruel
Breeding” states “Caged dogs develop lesions and sores from constantly standing on
uncomfortable wire flooring, and can get cut on the wire’s sharp points. Because the
cages are usually stacked vertically, urine and feces rain down onto the dogs below. Dogs

of all ages and sizes may be crammed in together, which can lead to stress, aggression
and fighting. They aren’t taken on walks, and don’t get to play with toys or run around.
They eat, sleep, relieve themselves and give birth in these cages. It’s the only reality
they’ll ever know.”
This quote highlights how puppy farming affects dogs and pet owners or breeders
should be more responsible for animals. Also, the “Humane Society of the United States”
claims that, there are about 10,000 oficial and banned puppy mills in the US, and is
selling about 2,000,000 puppies for pets each year. According to “www.Do
something.org”, it says that “2.11 million puppies are sold that originated from puppy
mills, while 3 million are killed in shelters because they are too full and there aren’t
enough adoptive homes” this means that puppy farming is killing more dogs than they
give away - this is also why they shouldn't make a lot and cram them into small spaces.
Another type of abuse is pet abandonment, this is when the owner of a pet
abandons their pet. There are many reasons why an owner would abandoned their pet.
Usually when they buy their pet it is first a cute baby, then it grows up and the cuteness
disappears, so, the owner decides to throw it away. Or, they abandon their pet because
they are lazy or don't have any more money left to take care of it. Another reason why
they might abandon their pet is because they don't care about them. A quote in an article
called “Pet Abandonment” (Animal rights action) says “People wouldn’t abandon a child,
so they shouldn’t do it to a pet. They are just as much family as a biological or adopted
child. " This is very true because there are more abandoned pet than a child an pets
should be taken care of better.
Pet abandonment can be caused by movies such as 101 dalmatians. In this film
dalmations were cute and fun but actually in real life they are not as sweet as you think.
According to “After Movies, Unwanted Dalmatians” (The New York Times) it says
“Animal shelters around the country have reported sharp increases in the number of
unwanted Dalmatian dogs this year, many of them given to children as gifts last
Christmas after the release of Disney's remake of the movie ''101 Dalmatians.'' Although
nationwide figures are not available, some shelters say they have seen the number of
abandoned dogs more than double and that they fear the problem will only grow worse
with the new ''101 Dalmatians'' television program on ABC.” The director of dog rescuers
Phelps
3

in North Miami beach called Pati Dane said that they rescued 130 dogs this year, she also
claims that it takes about two and a half years to get that many dogs. This shows that
many people are just buying it because they think they are cute and funny, but actually
they bite, and don’t like children which is why people start to abandon them. This has
becomes really big problem and many dogs are getting abandoned, so when you want to
buy a dog make sure to do your research.

As you know, animal abuse has affected a lot of animals, but did you know that people
abusing animals also affects us as well? There have been many cases where people who
first abused animals led to them abusing other people. In an article called “Jailed for
beating dog in 2012, man now faces murder charge in mother’s death” states that “A man
who beat his German shepherd with a baseball bat, leaving it for dead in a Vancouver
dumpster two years ago, has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with
the death of his mother.” This proves that we should stop people from abusing animals
because then they will start to abuse others too. Another example is from an article called
“Animal Abuse and Human Abuse: Partners in Crime” it claims “A survey of psychiatric
patients who had repeatedly tortured dogs and cats found that all of them had high levels
of aggression toward people as well.” Examples of people abusing animals who later
abused people from the text are found in this quote: “History is replete with serial killers
whose violent tendencies were first directed at animals. Albert DeSalvo (the “Boston
Strangler”), who killed 13 women, trapped dogs and cats and shot arrows at them through
boxes in his youth. (6) Serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer impaled frogs, cats, and dogs’ heads
on sticks.(7) Dennis Rader (the BTK killer), who terrorized people in Kansas, wrote in a
chronological account of his childhood that he hanged a dog and a cat.(8) During the trial
of convicted sniper Lee Boyd Malvo, a psychology professor testified that the teenager,

who killed 10 people with a rifle, had “pelted—and probably killed—numerous cats with
marbles from a slingshot when he was about 14.”(9)” This has become a problem in
many countries and it has to be stopped before more people get injured
Do you have a pet? How often do you take care of it or play with it? These are
some important things you need to do in order to keep an animal happy and healthy. If
you are a pet owner, it is your responsibility to know whether your pet is healthy or not to
give them a good life. . This page explains different types of body language and signs
