5. What made man different from the other animals? (see verse 26)
It must have been amazing to live in the Garden of Eden. Being a special creation in God’s own
image made man different from all the other creatures God had created. Adam and Eve had
everything they needed in their lush garden home.
In this passage look for one restriction God placed on their activities.
God had given Adam and Eve everything they could possibly need. There were trees loaded with
fruits of every description. They were forbidden to eat from only one of the trees. Watch how the
serpent twisted everything and made Eve want the very thing God had said they could not have.
Are we ever tempted to want something just because we know we can’t have it?
3. The tree looked like it would be good to eat its fruit? verse _____
4. Eve gave the fruit to her husband and he ate it, too. verse ____
How quickly they forgot how much God had given them
in the Garden and taken lightly His instructions for them.
Having disobeyed God when they ate the fruit He had
forbidden, we will see Adam and Eve show feelings of
shame and fear. Not unlike what we do at times, they
both try to shift the blame to someone else.
1. What did Adam and Eve try to do when they heard the voice
of God?
3. Who did Adam say had made him eat the fruit?
5. Have you ever heard people blame someone else for their own mistakes?
Can you think of an example?
6. Would it have been better to have at least admitted what they had done?
In this first record of man’s sin, we also read about God’s punishment for the disobedience. The
most immediate punishment for Adam and Eve is their removal from the Garden. From then on,
their very survival would depend on their own hard work. God must have been very disappointed
in Adam and Eve, but He will also offer a sign of hope for generations to come.
Cain’s Abel’s
From the beginning of the world, God had a plan for man. He has always wanted the man that
He created to know Him and have a special relationship with Him. Being the Creator, God had
a right to make the rules for man to follow. By obeying God’s rules, man can show his love for
God. When Adam and Eve were tempted
by the serpent (Satan) they did not do as What is the meaning?
God had told them. God said that Satan
would be crushed by a child born to a
woman. This is the first hint of the promise offering –
of the coming Savior. The Old Testament
was written a long time ago by many
different writers, but what it says is still
very important today. The Old Testament create –
is full of exciting stories, beautiful poems,
and great advice. It shows us what God
is like and how He keeps His promises.
Everywhere you look in the Old Testament jealous –
you will see glimpses of His great promise
to send a Savior.
