AN UNFORGETTABLE EXPERIENCE

It was one o’clock in the morning.Ah Moi was waiting for her husband. She was very worried
for her husband had never come back so late. She could not sleep. Each second was like a
thousand years. She gazed at her little baby who was sleeping in the cot 婴儿床.A sight smile rose
on her face.
There was a power failure 停电 that night.A candle on a candlestick shone brightly in the
room. She glimpsed at the clock on the wall.Suddenly a loud crash pieced the silence of the
night. Her heart missed a beat.It did not sound too good. She looked out through a window with
the help of the moonlight. She spotted her husband’s car.The car had collided 相撞 with a lorry.
Her heart started to pound and her hands grew clammy 湿 湿 地 .Without further
consideration, she rushed out from her house towards the car.She accidentally knocked the table
and the candle fell down.In her haste, she did not notice that.
She reached her husband. He was trapped in the wrecked 失事 car.His head and feet were
bleeding prosefuly. She called out her husband’s name repeatedly but he was unconscious.By
then, the villagers had converged 聚集 at the scene. The situation was chaotic 混乱.The lorry driver
and the villagers gave a helping hand to extricate her husband to the wreckage. But they failed to
do so.Her husband exhaled his last gasp of breath in the car.She cried sadly and tears flowed
down her cheeks uncontrollably.
At the moment, someone cried out,“Fire!Fire! Her house was fire!”She turned her head and
saw that the fire had spread to the bedroom. She remembered her baby “My baby is in the
house! My baby!”She shouted nervously and ran towards her house. She was forbidden by some
villagers from barging into the burning house. The fire spread quickly and the house was engulfed
被吞没 in flames in a matter of minutes.
The villagers formed a bucket brigade to put out the raging fire. But their efforts were like a
drop in the ocean. She cried, screamed and struggled to free herself from the hold of the
villagers. She wanted to get into the house to save her baby. She was screaming hysterically 歇斯
底里地尖叫.She became weary 疲倦 and tired. She could only gaze helplessly at the fire. She was
extremely sad that she had lost her husband, her child, her house and had lost everything in one
night. It was indeed a terrible night for her.
…IT WAS THE SADDEST MOMENT IN MY LIFE

Each time I look into my jewellery box,a charm-bracelet would catch my eyes and cause
memories to come flooding back. You see,I had a sister named Aida.We were identical twins 同卵
双胞胎.No one but our closest relatives could tell us apart. We acted alike,we quarrelled 争吵
frequently, but we knew that we loved each other.
On the morning of our sixteenth birthday, we wake up early.I was so excited because I sensed
that something interesting would happen. That day,Aida did not seem to share my enthusiasm, but
she also looked cheerful.
After breakfast, my parents gave us matching charm-bracelets.Each bracelet bore both our
names.Mother said that it ws a symbol of eternal link, so we would never be apart no matter
what happened. We gave mother and father a quick hug thanked them and hurried off to the
school. We decided to wear the bracelets.
As soon as we arrived at the gates of the school, our classmates gathered around us and wished
us happy birthday.By the time we got to class,I was grinning from ear to ear.During recess, the
students made a small party for us.I was overwhelmed with an intense sense 强烈的感觉 of
exhilaration 不亦乐乎,exuberance and euphoria.Aida and I could not stop thanking the students.
Suddenly,Aida stood up make a speech. She cleared her throat to get everyone’s attention.“My
sister and I would like to thank all of you for this surprise party you held for us.This is possibly the
best moment of our entire lives. You don’t know how much this means to us,”she said.“We are so
lucky to have such great friends.”Her voice wavered for a moment and I noticed that her eyes
were beginning to moist 湿.I quickly stood up and said,“Once again,I would like to express our
utmost gratitude to each and everyone of you for giving us such a remarkable time.”The students
applauded.
I sat next to Aida.“What’s the matter?”I asked her.She just shook her head and smiled at me.I
rolled my eyes at her.I hated it when she became discreet. She acted oddly 行为怪异 for the rest
of the day.
Ring! The shrill scream of the school bell declared that school was dismissed for the day.As I
was packing my bag,my eyes fell onto my charm-bracelet.I groaned miserably 非常不幸地 when I
noticed that it was broken.Aida’s name and my name were separated.I pointed this out to
Aida.“Do not worry, you can fix it at home,”she said.
There was a slight drizzle 毛雨 as we stepped out of the school.Since neither of us had brought
an umbrella,we decided to walk home as quickly as possible before the heavy rain started to
fall.As we walked,I teased her about her speech.
“I cannot believe that you were so sentimental 伤 感 .Do you want a hanky 手帕 ?”I
teased.Strangely, she did not argue with me.She stopped abruptly and turned to me.
“Aina,”she said.“Promise me that you will never forget me no matter what happens.I want you
know that I love you, sis.”I was taken aback by her words,“Are you okay,Aida?”I asked her.She
remained silent.
Suddenly, there was a deafening screech 震耳欲聋的尖叫.I turned around and saw a blinding
light.I heard the honking of a car. The last thing that rang into my ears was a scream of pain.I
looked around and saw Aida sprawled 趴 in the middle of the road.I quickly ran to her and cradled
抱着 her head. There was blood trickling out of her mouth.
She grimaced in pain and placed her charm-bracelet in my hands. She struggled to speak.“Keep
this.Treasure it always,”she managed to utter. Then, she went limp in my arms.I frantically felt for a
pulse,but there was none.
Without thinking,I ran back home, crying in agony 痛苦.I pushed opened the door and
stumbled 迷迷糊糊 inside my house.
“Surprise!!”everyone yelled. My parents had prepared a surprise birthday party for us!I stood
rooted to the spot. Then, everyone saw my tear-streaked 泪痕 face and my blood-drenched 血淋
林 uniform. They were shocked.I broke down and told them when had happened.Everyone rushed
to the site to verify my story.
When my parents saw Aida’s body, they wept in anguish 痛苦.I would never forget that day.The
day had started so joyously, but it had ended with a tragedy.I felt so alone.Tears came streaming
down my face as I recalled my last moments with my beloved sister. The person whom I had spent
my entire life had been cruelly taken away from me.She was a hit-and-run victim. The
irresponsible driver was never caught. From that day onwards,I never celebrated my birthday
because it would only bring back the painful memories of that day.It was the saddest moment in
my life.
