SoL: WHI. 12 The student will demonstrate knowledge of social, economic, and political
changes and cultural achievements in the late medieval period by:
a.) describing the emergence of nation-states (England, France, Spain, and
Russia) and distinctive political developments in each.
b.) explaining conflicts among Eurasian powers, including the Crusades, the
Mongol conquests, and the fall of Constantinople.
c.) identifying patterns of crisis and recovery related to the Black Death (Bubonic
plague).
d) explaining the preservation and transfer to Western Europe of Greek, Roman,
and Arabic philosophy, medicine, and science.

Bellringer: Illustrate how the Black Death shaped European history, OR how it travelled
across continents, OR what the disease actually looked like.

Objective: Students will review for the test on the late Medieval period.

Procedure:

 Black Death Guided Notes
 Nation-State Research Project
o Students will be broken up into three groups to research Spain, England,
and France as early nation-states
o They will record this information on a classwide Google Slide in which
they will present this information
o Groups will assign roles among themselves to research leader(s), major
events/wars, enemies, unification, and geography.
