1. Manchester has a large indoor sports arena, which is often used for boxing

The Manchester Arena was originally built as part of Manchester's bid for the Olympic games of
2000. Although the bid was unsuccessful the Arena has been a huge success. Some events from the
arena's history include: Take That, Kylie Minogue, Paul McCartney and Pavarotti concerts, Mike
Tyson and Ricky Hatton boxing fights and Manchester United's homecoming after winning the
Treble in 1999.
Rochdale Association Football Club was founded in 1907. It has generally spent most of its time in
England lowest division. However, they were League cup runners up in 1961/62 and promoted to
division 3 for a few years in 1969.

The 2004 remake of the film 'Alfie' was based in New York but some of the outside scenes were
filmed in Manchester. The appearance of several streets in central Manchester where changed to
look like New York. American cars and taxis were used. The movie starred Jude Law.

The Manchester dartboard is black and smaller than a normal dartboard. The numbers are in
different positions and there is no treble area. They have been going since the 1930s. They are made
out of wood, usually elm, and are died black. The boards have to be kept soaked in water when they
are not being used to prevent them from drying up and cracking.
