Our Genesis services utilize an environmental lighting effect

called haze, a theatrical humidifier to thicken the air to enhance
lighting. Both Lee Fellowship Hall and Sanctuary hazers are
water-based and safe.

NOTES
Traditional Worship
You may wonder from time to time how we chose the
hymns and music we do for the worship services. The
process starts with prayer. I then read the passage of
Scripture that is the preaching text for the morning.
The preacher for the day has written a short summary of
the main direction of the sermon which I then read. Since
the general direction of the sermons are known months
in advance, the choral pieces are also chosen months in
advance. Each choral anthem is normally rehearsed about
eight weeks in preparation for worship. The hymns and
service music are chosen about a month in advance. The
theme of the morning generally guides the direction of
the service. You will notice that there is most often some
line or verse in the hymn that has a direct bearing on the
Scripture of the day. With all that planning, you may be
thinking, “Where is there room for the Holy Spirit” in
this process?” What we have discovered is that oft times
the Holy Spirit also plans ahead! In one of our worship
services when I was in California we were singing Can You
Feel the Mountains Tremble? and we had a little earthquake
as we were singing! Though we have planned and prepared
for each service, we also endeavor to keep our hearts
opened and tuned to God’s voice as we move through each

THIS WEEK'S DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
1. Have you ever helped to mediate the reconciliation
of two people? How did it go?
2. David gives credit to the Lord for sending Abigail to
him (v. 32). For what purpose did God send Abigail
to David?
3. Why do you suppose that God honored Abigail’s
peace-promoting efforts?
4. Nabal’s selfish actions put innocent lives in danger.
Abigail quickly took action for their sake and sought
reconciliation with David. What can we learn about
our responsibility toward others from the actions of
Abigail.
5. What can we learn from David’s response to Abigail
(v. 32-35)? Why do you think David responds the
way he does?
6. Abigail risked her life when she went to David.
Often, we find it difficult to reconcile with family
members and friends, even when the stakes
are much lower. Why is it so difficult to reconcile
with others? What do we risk when we attempt
reconciliation?
7. Conflict resolution is challenging for just about
everyone. How can our faith in God inform the way
in which we seek to resolve conflict with others?
What kind of witness would that offer?
