Types of Aspects

1.. The planets not only exert influence over the house where they are posited, they also
extend their influence over the house and planets, which they aspect. Similarly they are
also influenced by other aspecting planets. The aspects in Tajika shastra are taken from
western school of astrology and are quite different from Parashari or Jaimni system. These
are of three types as under:

1. Friendly aspect: A planet influences with a friendly aspect on houses and planets
posited therein in houses 3, 5, 9 and 11, counted from itself. In turn it receives friendly
aspect from planets posited in these houses. The friendly aspects are further sub-divided as
under:

(a) Openly friendly (IPratyaskh mitra)- When planets are posited in 5/ 9 position from each
other.

(b) Secretly/ semi friendly (gupta mitra)- When planets are posited in 3/ 11 position from
each other.

2. Inimical aspect: The planets become enemies of each other when they are posited in
Kendra (houses 1, 4, 7 & 10th) from each other. The inimical aspects are also sub-divided as
follows:

(a) Openly inimical (Pratyaksh shatru)- When planets are posited in 1/ 7 position from each
other.

(b) Secretly/ semi inimical (Gupta shatru)- When planets are posited in 4/ 10 position from
each other.

3. Neutral or no aspect: The planets exert neutral or no aspect when posited in 2/12 or
6/8 position from each other.

2. These aspects also indicate whether any two planets are friends, enemy or neutral to
each other. These aspects are universally used while delineating a Prashna or a
Varshphal Chart. It is imperative for any planets to be in aspect with each other if
they have to give some results. As an example, in the chart given below, Mercury &
Venus are inimical to each other, being posited in the same house. They are also inimical to
Moon being posited in 4/10 position from each other. Saturn & Mars are openly friendly (and
so are Moon & Sun also similarly posited) bei8ng posited in 5/9 position from each other.
There is no aspect between Jupiter & Moon and between Saturn & Venus-Mercury as they
are posited in 6/8 position from each other. Sun & Saturn are inimical to each other as they
are posited in 1/7 position.

Strength of Aspect

3. As per Tajik Neelkanthi (Chapter-1, Sloka 78 to 82), the strength of aspect can be
numerically measured also. The strength of the aspect between any two planets can be
between zero to 60 units. To find out the exact strength, deduct the longitude of aspecting
planet from the aspected planet. The difference in terms of signs, degrees and minutes shall
be obtained. The difference in terms of signs or more exactly the house representing this
sign is allotted a numerical unit. The minus (-) before this number indicates that the aspect
is inimical. For example, balance sign 1 means the second house, balance sign 2 means
3rd house and so on till 12 or 0 means the same house. The numerical units of aspect for
various signs are as under:

To know the exact strength of aspect, note the degrees & minutes of the difference in
longitude of the two planets. Multiply it by the unit mentioned against balance sign and
divide the product by 30. The result is to be added or subtracted as the case may be if the
units under the `balance sign’ are less or more than units under the next sign.

4. The above aspectual views are identical with the western methods where Kendra aspects
are considered inimical. However views of Vedic astrologers are at complete variance. In
Vedic astrology some of the great beneficial yogas are formed between planets posited in
Kendras. The great Varahmir gives special importance to the Kendras without holding the
planets posited in them as openly or overtly inimical. Similarly Dr. BV Raman says that “in
delivering the results as square and opposition as always adverse, the inherent nature of
planets seems to have been ignored by Tajika writers. It occurs to me that the nature of
planets can influence, to some extent, the nature of the aspect. For instance, a square or an
opposition between Jupiter and Venus cannot be as adverse as that between Mars and
Saturn. However while interpreting (resultsA), this aspect is not taken into account for
