LYNCHBURG COLLEGE LESSON PLAN

and poetry.

o Understanding the basic lessons or morals of fairy tales, myths, folktales, legends, and fables
from diverse cultures.
j. Identify supporting details.

Content outline:
Identify details that support the main idea of a fiction selection.
State in their own words the main idea of a fiction selection.

Rationale:
It’s important for students to figure out the main idea that the author is trying to make in the text
so they can know what the context of the story is in order for them to fully understand it.

Objective(s) of the lesson​:


Students will be able to explain the story elements, main idea, and theme of a fiction text with
95% accuracy.

Did you like reading this story?

Connection:
Students should have prior knowledge about fiction texts when they were learning it in other
grades.

3 Rotations around the room
1. Teacher Table (Group 1, Group 2, Group 3).
2. Independent Practice (Seatwork).
3. Digital Learning (Computer Work).

Completed Organizer Strip
Assessment:
Students will be given a passage where they will have to identify if its a fairy tale, myth, legend,
or fable. Students will write the story elements, main idea, and theme of that passage.

Closure:
What helps support the main idea? What has been your favorite genre while we were studying
fictional texts? Name a characteristic of your favorite genre.

Homework:
Homework worksheet is given to students that has questions on it from Monday to Thursday.

Differentiation:
I will differentiate by giving students passages to read that are on their reading level.
