Web 2.0 Tools to Support Collaborative learning

Brief instructions of Teachers can create an account for free with limited access to certain tools or upgrade
how to use the tool anytime for a yearly fee. The teacher signs up by giving their page a web address and
providing information such as name, email address, and password. PBwiki then sends a
confirmation email with a link to activate the account. Once the link is activated, the
teacher can set the privacy settings for the workspace. Once in the workspace, the teacher
can create pages, upload files, invite students and others to become a part of the workspace,
create assignments, create a course page, create a syllabus, assign editing and commenting
permissions, and monitor changes to their workspace.
Ideas for how the tool Elementary Level
can be used in PK-12 1. Teachers can use the tool to post updates to schedules, assignments, and keep
parents informed.
2. Teachers can use this tool to teach younger children some of the basics in using
computers and give them more computer experience.
3. Students and parents can use the tool if the student is absent. Parents and students
can get caught up and complete assignments they may have missed.
4. Teachers can use this as brag page to show off a student’s work. It could be a
writing piece or a photo of art work that was created.
5. Teachers can use this for vocabulary, spelling, quiz, or test reviews.
6. Students can use this to ask each other questions about assignments and work on
group work together.
7. Teachers could use it as way to share lesson plans.

Middle School and High School Level


1. Students studying language could talk to other Pbwiki users from another country
and practice the language.
2. Students taking web design or computer classes could work on building a
workspace from scratch or collaborate as a group.
3. Students could use this as a discussion boards and reflections
4. Science students could use this tool to collaborate on lab work.
5. Teachers can use this to keep students and parents informed about events, grades,
deadlines, etc.
6. Teachers can post lecture notes, homework assignments, project guidelines, exam
dates.
7. Extracurricular clubs could create workspaces to keep students informed about
events or volunteer opportunities.

1. Because Pbwiki offers so many possibilities for the workspace, teachers may find

it difficult or overwhelming to come up with ideas to best utilize the page to its full
potential.
2. Younger students may need help with accessing and navigating the workspace.
3. Not every student may have the technology available to access the workspace at
home or away from the classroom.
4. Tech support issues may arise that prevent a student from accessing the site and
completing an assignment.
