• Stipend Programme (PKR 1.72 billion)
• The KP Stipend Programme is an initiative for the
sole benefit of girls; to promote enrolment and
retention in secondary government schools.
• Girls studying in grades 6 – 10 in government
schools and having at least 80% attendance, are
provided with stipends.
• PKR 2,400 per year for girls in 6 – 8 and PKR
6,000 per year for girls in 9-10.
• More than 443,204 girls enrolled in grade 6 – 10
were provided with stipends under the Girls’
Stipend Programme (GSP) across 25 districts; to
ensure that they remained in government schools
and did not drop out due to economic hardships.
• Girls Community Schools (GCS’) are located in rural
and remote areas across all districts of the province, in
areas that do not have government primary schools.
• 2010-13: 196 Schools for 13,651 girls
• 2013-16: 1,251 Schools for 43,220 girls who were out
of school across KP were enrolled in these schools.
• So far, the ESEF has set up over 1,700 GCS’ with a
total grant of PKR 1.4 billion.
• In addition to this, these GCS’ provide a source of
livelihood to nearly 2,150 women living in rural
communities who are now teachers of the GCS’.
• These schools provide education to over 99,000
students. Of these, more than 65% are girls
• The Iqra Farogh e Taleem Education Voucher scheme is
an initiative to provide education to out of school
children (ages 5-16) living in areas that do not have
government schools.
• Allocation of Rs. 500 Million
• Through a voucher, these children are able to study free
of cost in private schools. In addition to this, they are
also provided with free textbooks, uniforms and shoes.
• Currently being implemented in six districts, 60,000
vouchers have been distributed so far. Of these, 50%
have been provided to girls.
• The voucher scheme is currently being expanded to all
25 districts.
• The KP Elementary & Secondary Education Department
has standardized higher secondary schools across the
province by improving basic infrastructures like boundary
walls & providing high-tech equipment in classrooms and
laboratories. Setting an example of quality education in
Pakistan.
• Rs. 10 Billion have been spent on Standardization Project.
• All Higher Secondary Schools to be standardized from ADP
(provincial own resources) through NESPAK and 200 HSSs
are to be standardized through DFID assistance.
• 2,428 schools (new and upgraded) have
been established across KP.
• There were only 308 higher secondary
schools built in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
during the year 2013.
• This number has been increased up till
605 Schools across KP.
• Elementary and Secondary Education
Department and Provincial IT Board launching
an early age programming course in the IT labs
of K-P government schools for grade 7 to 9.
• The programme is launched in 60 government
schools of 14 districts in the first phase.
• Under the programme, children would be
taught fundamentals of information
technology.
• Before 2013, there were only 170 IT labs present.
• Now there are more than 1340 IT labs are
established since May 2013 in High and Higher
Schools across the province.
• 100 Interactive white boards were installed in
schools in 14 Districts with a back up of Solar
panels.
• During the year 2016-2017 a total number of
160,411 students have been migrated to
Government schools from the private schools.
• This is due to the improvement in government
schools and parents have build their trust in
public schools.
• The ESED and IT directorate has decided to create the
viability of the IT labs in public schools for its optimal
utilization for general public, communities and
especially women who would like to strengthen their
skills.
• Communities taking benefits of IT Labs in KP Schools.
This project which involves afternoon classes has
been initially piloted in 17 schools and 8 districts
across KP, where more than 1400 students are
receiving training on use of ICT in schools in
afternoon through these IT labs.
• Establishment of the first Girls
Cadet College in Mardan at the
cost of 3 billion rupees.
• The Elementary and Secondary Education (E&SE) Department of
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has launched the proposed bill on
providing free and compulsory education at the primary and
secondary level to all children of the age five to 16 years. Article
25A of the Constitution states: “The state shall provide free and
compulsory education to all children of the age of five to 16
years in such a manner as may be determined by law.” This
article was incorporated into the Constitution through its 18th
amendment.
• Under the draft bill, the parents would be punishable with
imprisonment up to one month or fine which may extend up to
Rs100 for every day after the conviction for not sending children
to schools or with both. Parents who fail to send their children
to school without any reasonable excuse defined in the law will
be liable for imprisonment and fine. In this regard, the
government will constitute a School Attendance Authority for
each school to keep a check.
• The objective of the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government was
to have an appropriate regulatory authority to register,
regulate and supervise private schools across the province.
• To strengthen the categorization of the private schools by
rewarding the best performing private schools, but also
provide compulsory teacher training for better
performance and results.
• Siblings will get discounts in fee not less than 25% and the
authority will also supervise the curriculum, and other co-
curricular activities.
• It will sanction the annual increase in fee in excess of up to
10 percent once in a year.
• This will work as a watch dog that will also monitor schools
performance and it would also have the powers to classify
private schools while keeping institutions educational
standards and facilities in view.
• This is initiative started in 2014 for the first time in
KP to motivate the teachers. So far more than 4700
best performing teachers have received prizes of
100,000 and 50,000 cash prizes.
• More than 2,500 Tablets worth Rs. 89 Million were
given.
• 960 best performing school teachers, headmasters
and principals were rewarded a total of Rs. 55 Million
during 2014-15
• The year 2015-16 and 2016-17 there was double the
number, both schools and allocation. Cash Prizes
were distributed among the principals, head masters
and teachers of 240 schools with an allocation of 110
million rupees respectively.
• Criteria: Increase in enrollments, better results in SSC
exams, participation rate in SSC Exams, improved
teachers/students attendance
• More than 65,000 Teachers have been trained since
2013 with an allocation of Rs. 800 Million for better
student learning outcomes. Training outsourced for
the first time in KP through: Socio Engineering,
Afaaq Education, Beacon house School System,
PORTAL Education.
• Trainings by PITE (Department) as ECCE,
Assessments, Leadership and Management, Science
Subject Training, CPD
• British Council will train nearly 83,000 teachers of
primary schools with special focus on four subjects;
English, mathematics, science and general
knowledge.
• Around, 45,000 primary school teachers will be
trained across the province on the jolly Phonics in
Primary schools.
• School based budgeting is a mechanism for financial
decision making from the district office to the facility
levels(Schools).
• The E&SED has introduced School Based Budgeting to
enable middle and primary schools at local level to
prepare budgets and track expenditure incurred – both
salary and non-salary components.
• SBB was piloted in district Karak.
• The districts where school based budgeting will be
operationalized during 2017-18 are Abbottabad,
Bannu, Battagram, Charsadda, Chitral, D I Khan,
Nowshehra and Swat. School based budgeting is based
on education resource strategies that promote better
planning and transparency at the school level.
• KPESE is providing education
opportunities to hundreds of
grown-up students aged 9-16
in evening schools under
Speed Literacy Programme.
• MoU has been signed between KP E&SE and
Peshawar Zalmi Foundation (PZF) followed by
unveiling of the trophy and shirts for eight
regional teams of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
• In the first phase, the regional level
tournament will be held from December 26 till
31 in Haripur district.
• The second phase of the school league will be
started in February 17, 2018 in which all
schools and districts of KP will participate and
top talent will be identified and trained by the
professional coaches and trainers.
• The league cricket will be expended to the
rest of Pakistan starting from the next year.
• ESED has decided to make teaching
of Quran compulsory from next
academic session. The department
took a lead in all other provinces to
move towards the implementation of
a new scheme of studies to impart
Quranic education with translation
to Muslim students from class 1-12
in all schools throughout the
province from this year’s new
academic session.
• For the First Time in KP IMU was established in March
2013.
• More than 500 Nonfunctional schools made functional
since then.
• Absenteeism decreased by 12-15% at the school level,
because of IMU, students attendance increased by
24%
• 300 teacher terminated due to absenteeism, recovery
of Rs. 200 Million was made through IMU & OAMS.
• Up to 8,000 disciplinary action were taken against
teachers
• OAMS Online Action Management system has been
implemented across the province for online actions
against the teacher absenteeism.
• The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Elementary & Secondary
Education has achieved another milestone by
launching School Quality Management Initiative in
KP Schools.
• The primary aim of SQMI is thus to revitalise the
function of the Education Directorate to inspect the
quality of teaching and learning processes in KP
schools in a manner that is practical, useful, cost-
effective and sustainable.
• Based on the pilot, School Quality Management
Initiative will be replicated in all over Khyber
Pakhtunkhwa. ESED is allocating Rs. 70.00 Million for
year (2017-18), and through using technology the
capacities of ASEDOs will be enhanced to
successfully run SQMI in schools of KP.

installed in Schools.

• Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Elementary & Secondary
Education Department (E&SED) has started
installation of cameras in higher secondary schools
for surveillance and monitoring of upcoming H.S.C
(Metric) exams. The step has been taken to ensure
transparency in exams and monitor examination
process. Several high schools of Hangu and
Mansehra have already installed cameras in
examination halls. In the first phase, cameras will
be installed in about 500 high schools of KP.
• The E&SED will conduct 5th & 8th Grade
Assessments in March 2018

• To identify specific areas for professional
development of teachers in the middle and
higher schools
• To focus on conceptual learning than rote
memorization
