Title of Bill: ​Americans Against Severe Scalding Act of 2017 (A.A.S.S)

BE IT ENACTED BY THE 115​TH​ UNITED STATES CONGRESS

1 Preamble:
2 Whereas many people in the U.S. today are affected by the inconveniences or injuries caused
3 directly by drinkable liquids served at unsafe temperatures, the F.D.A. will induce a penalty to all
4 businesses which fail to serve drinks at safe, drinkable temperatures.
5 SECTION 1: This Bill shall be known as the Americans Against Severe Scalding Act of
6 2017(A.A.S.S.)

8 SECTION 2: Regulation
Temperatures of beverages sold by U.S. businesses will not exceed 165 degrees Fahrenheit under
9
penalty of law.
10 (A) This bill does not apply to any self-serve beverages
11 (B) This temperature is not to be exceeded only when it reaches the customer, and will not be
12 applied during the production of the beverage or the cooking process.
13 SECTION 3: Penalties
14 Failure to comply with Section 1 will result in a first strike, in which case the business will be given
15 a warning by the F.D.A. and a week to lower the temperature, a second consecutive strike will result
16 in a $200 fine, a warning by the F.D.A., and another week to lower the temperature, and a third
17 strike will decree the business as unsafe and will result in the closing of the business until they have
18
removed the offending drinks from service.

20 SECTION 4: Enforcement
21 All pre-existing government employees responsible for determining the safety of businesses
22 will now also be responsible for checking the temperature for all hot beverages sold by the
23 institution.
24 SECTION 5: Special Cases
Should the customer specifically request for a beverage at a temperature above the mandated limit,

the business is not to be held responsible for any fines or strikes, or for injuries suffered by the
26 consumer.

28 SECTION 6: Equipment
29 Workers will use pre-existing FDA measuring devices to measure liquid temperature.
30 SECTION 7: This bill shall go into effect 107 days, 4 hours, 33 minutes and 6 seconds from
31 the time it is signed by the president.
