Lesson 1 – Vowels

1.1.2 Use prior knowledge of technology tools for demonstrate mastery of background
knowledge as context for accessing information learning and pursuing inquiry.
Goals and Objectives:
To activate prior knowledge by reviewing alphabets, vowel and consonants.
Essential questions: What are alphabets? How do we make words? What are the vowels in
the alphabet?
Lesson: I will review with children what a vowel is and explain that there is a vowel in all
syllables and syllables are parts of words. I will then show videos reviewing The ABC song

reviewing the vowels and consonants.
Activity: Children will do two activity sheets find-vowels (1) and missing-vowels-farm-animals
Closing: Children will discuss with class their answers on the activity sheets.
Lesson 2 – Syllables Segments

situations, and create new knowledge.
Goals and Objectives: Understand that a word is made from alphabets using consonants and
vowels.
Essential questions: What is a syllable? How do we make words? Can you break animal words
into syllable parts?
Lesson: I will discuss the meaning of Syllabication. Syllables are parts of words and words have
a number of chunks they break into when speaking. I will demonstrate the syllables sounds in
each word by saying the word and stressing each syllable. For example. Camel breaks into 2
chunks, Ca mel.
I will read the story Duck Duck Goose using the ladybug lamp and create an animal word bank
from the story.
Whole group: I will show students animal cards and pronounce words by breaking into chunks
and stressing the syllable sounds. Children will repeat after me.
Small group. Children will work in small groups and pick an animal card. They will have to
decide as a group if the animal name has 1, 2, or 3 syllables and place in the bucket with
corresponding numbers
Closing: Children will draw a picture of an animal and say the word in syllable parts using
Chatterkix. Com. Ex. Bear = 1 syllable monkey (Mon Key) = 2 syllable. Etc.
Lesson 3 – Writing Syllables

Goals and Objectives:
Children will be able to break words down into syllables by sounding them out and breaking
into syllable parts. They will count the number of syllable and then write that number.
Essential Question: How do we break words into syllable parts? Can we write the
number of Syllables in a word?
Lesson: I will demonstrate breaking words into syllable parts by using IXL

does the word have.

Activity: Children will pick an animal card and write the sentence. For example. I am a
Dragon and then they will break the work up and write the word in syllable parts.
For example. They will write Dra gon
Closing: They will review in groups and compare their answers with the group.
Lesson 4 - Blending

1.2.7 Display persistence by continuing to pursue information to gain a broad perspective.
Goals and Objectives: To blend segments together to make words.
Essential Question: What is a segment? Can you blend segments together to make a word?
Lesson: I will discuss blending sounds together by stressing each letter in a word. For example,
(C A T) and then then I will say the word CAT. I will then use IXL Blending sounds to
demonstrate how sounds are blended together to make a word. Children will practice on IXL

Activity: Children will pick an animal pictures out of a bucket and then they will practice in
groups saying the animal words with members of their group by sounding out each letter in
word and then saying the word. They will choose animal pictures to paste on to syllable sheet
in the correct number of syllable and write the word.
Example, Duck 1 syllable.
Giraffe is 2 syllables
Children can color pictures when done if time permits.
Closing: Children will pick an animal from their paper and show the class how to stress the
word and then put the word together.
