Demand Red Light Camera Reform!

THE ISSUE
Red Light Cameras are not about safety, they simply generate revenue for municipalities, political campaign
funds, and corporate profits. Cook County politicians take money from Red Light Camera lobbyists to pass
ordinances like the one passed by the Cook County Board on June 1 st, 2010. This ordinance added 30 Red
Light Cameras to the streets of Cook County. Red Light Cameras are a tax masquerading as a safety measure,
imposed on you by politicians and corporations, taking our money and our Liberty!

THE FACTS
Analysis by the University of Illinois-Chicago concluded Red Light Cameras in Chicago increased accidents by
5% (http://theexpiredmeter.com/?p=6364). Independent studies show that lowering yellow light times by one second
increase red light violations by 100%. However, “A study conducted by Texas A&M University found that
adding one second of yellow time decreases crashes 35 to 40 percent and violations by 60 percent”. - Jeff
