Guidelines for making SOP ( Ireland )

Make your SOP using these broad points. Use your own language

Paragraph 1: Introduction

In 100 words or less, tell us about you and your family.

Consider these questions in your response: Briefly explain who you are, where you're from, your
academic qualifications and achievements. What work experience you have, your designation and
responsibilities. In very short about your family, whether married or not. Why you have chosen the
particular field to which you're applying?

Paragraph 2: Your course

In 300 words or less, tell us the name of your course and why you have applied for this program.

Consider these questions in your response: What influenced/ motivated you to choose that field/
this course? How the course selected by you is relevant to your previous academic /employment
background? If this program is not related to previous studies, why have you decided to change
your career path? What do you know about this program? What do you like about the program
structure?

Paragraph 3: About your university/ college

In 300 words or less, tell us why you have chosen _________(Your university/college

Consider these questions in your response: What research have you done that has led you to
choose (name of your univ/college)? Why have you chosen __________over other
university/college in Ireland? What do you know about (name of your univ/college)?

Paragraph 4: Why IRELAND?

In 300 words or less, tell us why you have chosen to study in Ireland.

Consider these questions in your response: Why have you particularly chosen to study in ___________
(name of the city)? What research have you done into other countries that have led you to choose
IRELAND as your preferred study destination? How will studying in Ireland benefit your future? If your
program is offered in India, why don’t you want to study it there? How is the education system in
IRELAND different to that in your country and how will this benefit you?

Paragraph 5: Future plans after completing studies in Ireland

What is the career outcome and what are your future plans after you complete this program?

Consider these questions in your response: Describe what kind of knowledge or skill you will acquire
from that particular course. Describe your future plans after completing your degree. What kind of job
do you expect to get once you complete this program? Where do you intend to work once you have
completed this program?
