Dialog Translation

2 | Banka Memuru Welcome. What is your identification number?

3 | Ceylan I'm not a Turkish citizen. I don't have an identification number.


4 | Banka Memuru Got it. Here you go. Two hundred Turkish lira.

5 | Ceylan Pardon - do you have change?

6 | Banka Memuru Of course. I'm giving you ten twenty lira bills in that case.

7 | Ceylan Okay. Thank you very much.

Language Points

At the Bank!

Here are some useful phrases while at the bank or dealing with money.

Bozuk var mı?


Do you have change?

Türk lirası almak istiyorum.


I want to buy Turkish lira.

Türk lirası satmak istiyorum.


I want to sell Turkish lira.

Often when doing something at the bank or government office, the Turkish worker may ask for your TC kimlik
numarası (Turkish Republic identification number). As a foreigner, you don't have one. These phrases might come
in handy for that situation:

TC numaram yok.
I don't have a TC number.

Türk vatandaşı değilim.


I'm not a Turkish citizen.

Yabancıyım.
I'm a foreigner.atim
O Zaman

O zaman means in that case and is a very handy word to have at your disposal for connecting your thoughts more
naturally when speaking Turkish.

Anladım. O zaman ben de geliyorum.


I understand. In that case, I'm also coming.

TC numaran yok mu? O zaman pasaportun var mı?


You don't have a TC number? In that case, do you have a passport?

O zaman biz yemek yemek istemiyoruz şimdi.


In that case, we don't want to eat right now.

Currencies

Turkish usually just uses the English word and pronunciation for the various world currencies (euro, pound, yuan,
etc.), with the exception of:

Dolar
US dollar

Vocabulary

banka bank

o zaman in that case

bozuk change (money)

kimlik id card

para money

almak to buy
lira lira (Turkish currency)

satmak to sell

vatandaş citizen
