Setting: French 1
Class time: 47 minutes

Objectives:
 I understand the location and some of the culture of a major French city
 I can describe the inside and outside of my house in French

 Communication 1.2: Students understand and interpret written and spoken language on a
variety of topics.

Timing Activity

1. Students work silently on Bellwork


Bonjour la classe! Prenez un “Travail du jour” s’il vous plait, et travaillez
silencieusement à la table.

3. We go over the beginning of bellwork

4. Miniature lesson introducing the city of Marseille- we will be doing the weather for this
city all week (See slides)

4. I call on two students to translate and answer the following questions on the board:

Comment est ta maison?

Où est-ce que tu veux habiter?

Students express feelings and emotions through their personal preference responses to the
bellwork

Communication 1.2: Interpretive Communication: Students understand and


interpret written and spoken language on a variety of topics.
Students respond to my verbal cues and write responses to the bellwork with written
instructions in French

1 minute Transition

Students are told to take a minute to check over their bellwork, to make sure it is suitable
to be turned in on Thursday. I instruct students to get out their unit packet.

I created the PowerPoint to make this a fun “guessing” game. I project the picture and
students have to raise their hand and say what it is in French.

Students use their French vocabulary skills to respond to the picture prompts

1 minute Transition

I ask a volunteer to hand out the house worksheet.

J’ai besoin d’un volontaire pour distribuer ces papiers, s’il vous plaît.

23 mins. Labeling a House

Worksheet:
Students work independently on labeling the house with their unit vocabulary. They are
instructed to use their unit packet notes to complete the worksheet.

Answers:
I project the worksheet onto the whiteboard and ask students to fill in one or two
answers that they feel confident in.

Students understand and apply the use of house vocabulary

2 mins. Closing

I ask students to pack up but to stay seated

Think-pair-share
I ask them to tell a neighbor one thing they learned today. Then I ask them to share what
their neighbor said.
