Dear Senior:

Your Medical Student Performance Evaluation (MSPE) is a summarized, comparative evaluation of

your academic performance during the years of your medical school education that will be of interest
to program directors who will review your MSPE through the Electronic Residency Application
Service (ERAS) this year. The MSPE requires a Noteworthy Characteristics (NC) section that consists
of three separate statements with two sentences that provide your accomplishments ranging from
contributions to scientific inquiry or community service to overcoming challenges/hardships during
your journey towards becoming a future physician. Please complete this NC questionnaire and return
it to me (lahaney@utmb.edu) no later than 8:00 a.m., Monday, April 30, 2018. It is highly
recommended that you consult with your assigned advisor to help you prepare (or review)
your NC section to help identify your accomplishments that best represent you. Please understand
that it is imperative for you to submit your NC section using this questionnaire to ensure your MSPE is
complete.

The NC section statements will be subjected to edits as deemed necessary by the deans/staff; however,
you will have an opportunity to review the revised versions at the end of May. You will receive a draft
of your entire MSPE to review (for accuracy/corrections only) in September 2018. Please refer to
pages 5 through 20 for NC examples and guidelines. If you have any questions or are unable to input
your statements, please contact me at lahaney@utmb.edu and/or 409-772-6503.
