CAMP
265

Commander’s Report
I need all members to keep in mind that our Civil War Relic
Show is on June 15th, 16th, & 17th and we will need all hands on deck.
Please make plans to be available if at all possible. I traveled to
Memphis, TN on March 4th to their Civil War Relic Show and was
received well by most vendors. After they think on it a while I believe the
seeds sown will produce fruit!
Please consider a job / responsibility in the camp. If you have a talent and
are willing to put it to good use, we could really use your help!
Our speaker this month will be Mr. Allen Winters. He is a Mississippi
artist, one of our vendors for the relic show, and he works with helping
different veteran organizations. He is part Choctaw Indian and will be
playing one of their native wind instruments for us as well as showcasing
his art. Please consider purchasing one of his prints. I believe they are
approximately $20.
We are doing a Memorial Service at the Old Brandon Cemetery in
conjunction with the Pearl SCV Camp on April 7th. You can dress out in
period uniform and participate or just come and support it. Either would
be greatly appreciated!
As always, we have new members coming in, good things to talk about
that have been happening, great food, & even better fellowship. So come
early, bring a friend, and as sure as four score and seven years ago it was
1931, I’ll probably see you at our next meeting at the Bass Pro Shop on
April 7th. OCR meeting starts at 5pm. Buffet starts at 5:45-6:30pm & our
SCV meeting starts at 7pm sharp. Remember to bring $13.50 cash for the
buffet. – Tim Cupit Special musical guests, also known as The Dixie Hummingbirds, performed a medley
of tunes!

This month the MAFOCR was able to deliver all the snacks donated
by our Chapter and Camp members to the VA Hospital in Jackson. I
know the patients will be so happy when they get to pick from the
wide variety that were donated. Thank you all so much for the
monetary donations as well.
We had our 2nd Annual State OCR Meeting in Tupelo on March 17th,
where we were able to make plans for the upcoming Division

Also, many thanks to Mr. & Mrs. Willard Chatham for the generous
donations of items for us to auction off. Support from the SCV is vital

2018 Civil War Relic Show Update – June 16th & 17th
As of March 7th, 2018 we have sold 185 tables for our Relic Show! Tim Cupit traveled to Memphis, TN on March 4th to solicit vendors for our show.
We have finished designing our ad for the newspapers, and completed the flier that we will pass out & mail to 120,000 people. We are now working on
our radio ads for the show, as well as working on our final mail-out to over 500 potentials vendors. We secured our food vendor for the show. He sets up
outside & has great food.

We need to find people willing to do a LIVING HISTORY at our Relic Show. Please keep that in mind and spread the word! Chuck Gray has secured
the Magnolia Rifles, a youth reenacting group, to set up at the show.

We received a $300.00 donation in January but we still need help raising money by selling ads in our newsletter or soliciting donations. Any help with
this endeavor would be greatly appreciated by all of us at Camp 265. Remember, it costs about $20,000 to put on our Relic Show! We have sponsor
sheets to use when selling ads with photos of activities our camp has done in the community, an explanation of how their donation will be used, and
information for them regarding a tax write off.

Remember: if you ask, you may be told no, but if you never ask- you’ll never be told yes!

Please make plans to attend the 2018 Civil War Relic Show and help us make it a success!
