A-9 Potassium Chloride (KCl)

Cement Additive
Baker Hughes uses A-9 potassium chloride (KCl) cement additive to minimize formation
damage. KCI is a white, granular material that is normally dry-blended with the cement,
but can also be added to the mix water. It does not require additional water when used in
cement. The amount of potassium chloride needed is based on the weight of water in the Applications

S-8 Silica Flour/BJ S-8C 100-Mesh Sand

Cement Additives
Baker Hughes uses S-8 silica flour and S-8C 100-mesh sand cement additives to provide
strength retrogression protection at temperatures above 230°F (100°C). Both additives
have a silica content (SiO2) of 98% or greater. The particle size and crystalline nature
of the silica prevents strength retrogression in cement at high temperatures. Both Applications
additives are commonly dry-blended with cement. „ Primary and remedial cementing

BJ W-10/BJ W-10A Weighting Materials

The BJ W-10 and BJ W-10A weighting materials provide a superior alternative to

hematite for weighting cement slurries used in high-pressure wells. These unique
materials’ fine particle size greatly improves suspending properties and maintains
a uniformed slurry density for improved well control. W-10A is the free-flowing form Applications
