GULAYAN SA PAARALAN

“GULAYAN SA PAARALAN” is a project by the Department of Education in collaboration with the

Department of Agriculture effected through DM 89, s.2015. This is a prject wherein parents of the pupils
cooperate with the school to plant vegetables in vacant and available areas therein. Every year since its
promulgation, DepEd chooses a participant school with the best ‘Gulayan’. Each participant shall submit
a narrative report with the DepEd documenting the steps taken to put the project in action.

This project aims to enrich community awareness on health, proper nutrition and economic benefits of
having a vegetable garden in a school. It helps to resolve poverty and malnutrition that our country is
currently facing. It also serves as a source of income through selling of the fruits harvested therein.

School is the foundation of the basic skills and learning. By reason of this, school is one of the best place
to start a project such as “Gulayan sa Paaralan” since it not only provides benefits to the pupils and the
school itself but also it spreads awareness on the value of planting vegetables and the nutrition is gives
to the benefit of a healthy living. The Gulayan sa Paaralan project may also serve as an inspiration to
community surrounding the school so as to beautify the environment and lessen pollution.

In cooperation with the said project, parents of the pupils of Lazaro Francisco Integrated School whole-
heartedly conducted a ‘bayanihan’ to prepare the vacant areas of the school that are fit to planting
vegetables. The parents worked together in cultivating the soil, planting the seeds, watering the plants
and maintaining the ‘Gulayan’ as documented in herein narrative report.
