I. FACTS OF THE CASE

Janice Fernandez is a college dropout and a single mom who spent all of
her money in his father’s business. One day he tried calling his Dad but he was
not answering. So, she came over to her Dad’s house to check on him. Janice
found his dad dead. His father was the only person who could run their business
as he was the only person skilled to do it. Janice was left bankrupt and was alone
raising her 5-year old daughter, Anne. Janice wanted to give up as she here house
was getting foreclosed, no income, and was left alone with a child.

Janice is living at a time where technology was a booming business. She

knew she was good at bringing people together, so she thought she could convince
entrepreneurs to hire her in the industry. John hired her. She did well. John’s
company Octagon earned Php3, 000,000; but John aimed to earn Php10,000,000
every month, so he fired Janice. He told Janice that she was good at handling
small people, not big ones, so he had to hire another. He also advised Janice to
create her own small technology company and she will definitely be successful.

A year after Janice created her own company and earned Php3,000,000.
After nine (9) months, she was already earning 300,000,000 and handling 5,000
employees. John was earning 10,000,000 while having 800 employees.

Janice also tried being a photographer and was renowned for it. She
eventually produced movies in the country.

II. POINT OF VIEW

Janice Fernandez’ perspective is the one being taken into consideration.

goal in life?

IV. OBJECTIVE/S

To reach one’s dreams and/or goals in life and learn when and how to
pursue or give up on them.

V. AREAS OF CONSIDERATION

STRENGTH

● Being interested and open in learning new things from other people.

● Walking thru fear; being nimble in the face of obstacles

● She is good at bringing people together.

● Trying out new skills like the pursuance of an old dream as a photographer

THREATS

● Her father died early, leaving her initially at a loss

● Bankruptcy and foreclosure, or any business failure that may arise

● Work-life balance

V. ALTERNATIVE COURSES OF ACTION

● Set one’s goals. Know what you want and what you’re aiming for- in the short
and the long term.

❖ One should know what he really wants to pursue in life in order to be

successful.

● Know one’s strengths and weaknesses, and always be on the lookout for
opportunities in your area.

❖ Janice knew what she’s good at, which is bringing people together.
Because of this she was able to start anew after her father’s death and the failure
of the business that the two of them shared. She recognized the potential big thing
in the locality she thrived in- where technology entrepreneurs were building their
empires and needing technical recruiters. Janice convinced one to hire her
because she knew she has what it takes, given just a bit of training.

● Never give up.

❖ Every entrepreneur or would-be entrepreneur will face hardships and

trials, not only during business but even due to the influence of outside factors
which one has no control over (such as the death of her father or her being fired
from the job). Janice did not give up.

● Be brave enough to try something new, however risky. Risks bring returns.

❖ There will always be risks in doing or leaving a business venture. Janice

knew her move of becoming a photographer was risky, but she was brave enough
to face them. Now she’s living a full and abundant life- doing what she loves and
inspiring her own child to be confident in pursuing dreams.

● Remain optimistic despite the adversities in life.

❖ Janice did not get frustrated when her boss fired her and told her that she
is only good at managing a small business. She took it as a challenge in starting
her own company which eventually become big. Being a college dropout also did
not stop her from pursuing her dreams. She was not intimidated in dealing with her
co-workers.

successful in life whether as an entrepreneur or an employee, one should carry
the traits and apply the aforementioned.

The experiences in a person’s life can either make him/her or break him/her.
Every endeavor, entrepreneurial or otherwise, will be coupled with challenges and
difficulties. But with the right attitude and proper perspective, along with strong will,
determination, and action will make success attainable.
