St. Mark’s Officers

President:
Sarah Dunning
Vice President:
Cathy Crockett
Secretary:
Amelia Kaczmarek Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?
Treasurer: Kim Smith The cries of the frightened disciples so many years ago are the same cries we
hear in Parkville, Florida and through our nation today.
Finance Secretary:
When disaster is upon the disciples and their boat battered by the storm is filling
Patsy Porter with water, their cry was not “Save us!” but, “Don’t you care?” The boat was not the
only thing being overcome by the storm that night . . . their faith was also washed
Council Members away. Fear does that.
Carlie Clary Today many people are asking, “Why doesn’t God care?” The violence of the
school shooting and our inability to prevent or stop it have overwhelmed many
Mike Crockett peoples’ faith. Fear does that.
Shelby Kremske Jesus asked the disciples in the boat, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have
no faith?”
Alice Murray
There is so much going on around us today - wars, conflicts, persecution,
Rev. Craig Lantz violence, crime, natural disasters, terrorism, unemployment, road rage, shootings,
death. We fear for our children’s future, we fear for our families. We fear for our
country. We fear for our safety. It would seem delusional to not be afraid.
“Peace is what I leave with you; it is my own peace that I give you. I do not give it as the world does. Do not
be worried and upset; do not be afraid.” John 14:27
“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help
you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10
“And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither
angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell
can separate us from God’s love.” Romans 8:38-39
These words of life comfort your fears. Read them. Trust them. We might still feel afraid, but we can
believe that God is with us. We may not be in control, but we can trust the One who is. We may not know the
future, but we can know the God who does.
