 PROCEDURE
„  1. Students will read the general instructions,
familiarize themselves with the research
theme, develop a suitable topic and submit a
research proposal within three weeks from the
first live session.
 
„  2. The thesis supervisor will evaluate the
proposal and advise the student if the
proposal is accepted or requires revision. The
proposed plan of research and topic must be
completely approved within 1 month.

„  3. Once the proposal has been approved, the

student will have 3 months to complete his or
her research and submit for grading.

„  4. After the submission, the thesis supervisor

will have two weeks to assess the thesis
and provide a date for argument defense if
need be. Thesis and argument defense may
be instituted to validate that no plagiarism
exists in the research.
„  Read and understand the
theme of research.
„  Develop a topic which THESIS GENERAL
personally interests you. INSTRUCTIONS
„  The topic and scope of
research should not be
too vast. FORMULATE A TOPIC
„  The thesis should be 30 -50 FOR RESEARCH
pages long, using 1.5 spacing
and size 12 font
„  A suitable referencing method
must be used (with in-text
citations and a reference list at
the end).
„  Your topic may contain sub-
topics relating to the main
topic. This should be indicated
in your research proposal.
„  Students must submit a 4-6 page
research proposal detailing the
plan of intended research. THESIS GENERAL
„  The thesis supervisor will assist INSTRUCTIONS
with the structure of this
document in live sessions.
The proposal must be submitted

„  Students should preferably submit
it within two weeks and wait for
feedback in case any revision is
required.
„  Once the proposal is approved,
the research and writing of the
actual thesis may start. A thesis
should not be written without the
prior approval of a research
proposal.

INSTRUCTIONS

„  Ensure that sufficient resources

are available to support your AVAILABILITY OF
topic. RESOURCES
„  Resources will appear in the
literature review of
your proposal to indicate
availability.
„  Draft a research proposal of a topic of
personal interest for the writing and
submission of an academic thesis in one of
the following research themes: THESIS RESEARCH THEME
1. Refuting claims made by non-Muslims
„ 
regarding the Prophet PBUH AND QUESTION
„  2. Islam as a middle path - universality
and moderation
„  3. Adherence to Shari'ah in the 21st
century
„  4. The Quran and Quranic sciences
„  5. Contemporary approaches to Da'wah

„  The proposal must be a plan of research

justifying the choice and suitability of your
topic and should be between 4 and 6 pages.  
The thesis supervisor will guide you in live
sessions to formulate this proposal and it has
to be submitted within three weeks of the
semester.

„  Once the proposal is approved, the thesis

may be written and submitted.
