Welcome and thank you for being here on

this beautiful Easter morning! We are excited
to be with our city celebrating God’s love,
hope & life.
THE RESURRECTION OF JESUS on Easter morning is creation’s chance to
correct what’s wrong with the world. After the beautiful events of creation,
things fell radically. A crippling and contagious brokenness enters the world,
which we see evidenced in our news feeds, in our relationships, and even in
our own hearts.

Yet God’s story doesn’t end with brokenness. He has continued to provide
a common grace for the common good: flowers still bloom, babies still
smile, miracles still happen. As the world often reminds us, however, that is
not enough: we needed a firm and final restoration to brokenness. So God
comes to us as Jesus, an extraordinary grace. He teaches and seeks reform
in such a radical way that he is tortured and executed on a cross.

And Easter is the turning point in the story. Through Jesus’ resurrection, a
new humanity is born for those who confess faith in Him and call Jesus Lord.
And now, the story continues, and we each have a place in it.
All because of Easter morning.

HYMN OF REDEMPTION The Power of the Cross

congregation, orchestra, choir & band Getty / Townend

Oh to see the dawn of the darkest day

Christ on the road to Calvary
Tried by sinful men torn and beaten then
Nailed to a cross of wood

Oh to see the pain written on Your face

Bearing the awesome weight of sin
Ev’ry bitter thought ev’ry evil deed
Crowning Your bloodstained brow

This the pow’r of the cross

Christ became sin for us
Took the blame bore the wrath
We stand forgiven at the cross

Now the daylight flees now the ground beneath

Quakes as its Maker bows His head
Curtain torn in two dead are raised to life
Finished the vict’ry cry

8
This the pow’r of the cross
Christ became sin for us
Took the blame bore the wrath
We stand forgiven at the cross

THE NICENE CREED

The Power of the Cross (continued)

Oh to see my name written in the wounds

For through Your suff’ring I am free
Death is crushed to death life is mine to live
Won through Your selfless love

This the pow’r of the cross

Son of God slain for us
What a love what a cost
We stand forgiven at the cross

From this time, and evermore.

Dr. Case Thorp (11am)

Everlasting God, let the light of Your eternity
Fall upon my passing days.
Holy God, let the light of Your perfect righteousness
Fall upon my sinful ways.
Merciful God, let the light of Your love pierce the secret
corners of my heart and overcome the darkness within me.
Gracious God, in Your kindness let the light of Your
countenance bring me to confession and repentance.
Help me recognize the deceit of my heart.

HYMN The Holy City

JOHN EASTERLIN, SOLOIST; ORCHESTRA & CHOIR Adam

Last night I lay a-sleeping

There came a dream so fair,
I stood in old Jerusalem
Beside the temple there.
I heard the children singing,

12
And ever as they sang
Methought the voice of angels
From heaven in answer rang,
Methought the voice of angels
From heaven in answer rang.

Jerusalem! Jerusalem!
Lift up your gates and sing,
Hosanna in the highest!
Hosanna to your King!
And then methought my dream was changed,
The streets no longer rang.
Hushed were the glad Hosannas
The little children sang.
The sun grew dark with mystery,
The morn was cold and chill,
As the shadow of a cross arose
Upon a lonely hill,
As the shadow of a cross arose
Upon a lonely hill.

Jerusalem! Jerusalem!
Hark! How the angels sing,
Hosanna in the highest!
Hosanna to your King!

And once again the scene was changed,

New earth there seemed to be.
I saw the Holy City
Beside the tideless sea.
The light of God was on its streets,
The gates were open wide,
And all who would might enter,
And no one was denied.
No need of moon or stars by night,
Or sun to shine by day;

13
It was the new Jerusalem
That would not pass away,
It was the new Jerusalem
That would not pass away.

Jerusalem, Jerusalem!
Sing for the night is o’er!
Hosanna in the highest!
Hosanna forever more!
Hosanna in the highest!
Hosanna forever more!
