The purpose of this method of statement is to outline the general requirements &
precautionary measures to be implemented for the supply and lay of Asphalt
Intermediate Course (IC Type 1) mix on site
2.0 SCOPE
This method of statement describes the activities and performance of associated
quality contro! activities related to the laying of Intermediate Course mix confirming
to relevant specifications, documents & project requirements.

6.0 MATERIALS
6.1 Asphalt IC Type 1 will be supplied from Plant which is mixed temperature
150°C to 160°C. Raw materials will be from approved sources, tested and
approved prior to mix.
6.2 Bitumen Binder Grade of 60/70 will be used supplied from M/s. BAPCO.
6.3 The Mix will be prepared as per mix designed approved by Ministry of
Environment, Laboratories and Standardization Affairs, Quality and
Conformity Department.
7.0 PROCEDURE
Documents No. Wi 003 Pages |7.1 Ensure that any sand, dust accumulated on surface to be brushed out.
7.2 Asphalt Intermediate Course shall be received from plant having the
temperature between 150°C to 160°C.
7.3 Arrival times at site & the temperature shall be measured and record.
7.4 Asphalt Intermediate Course shall be supplied to paver continuously & placed
uniformly to required thickness.
7.5 Precaution shall be taken to protect the mix from adverse weather conditions.
7.6 The road shall be divided into 2 lanes & each line will be laid the same width
the paver continuously from one end to the other without transverse joint.
7.7 During the laying operation the paver will be equipped with automatic sensor
to maintain the level of layed materials
7.8 The steel rollers having a mass of 10 tons will be follow the paver with two
passes on the layed materials starting from the lower side of the carriageway.
Thereafter will be followed by pneumatic roller having a mass of 9 & 11 tons
with 6-8 passes later on eliminated.
7.9 During all the operation the temperature of the materials will be controlled
between 120 °C -150°C
8.0 SAFETY
Prior to commencement of the works following safety requirements shall be
fulfilled:
8.1All necessary safety measures shall be fully operational before work
commences affecting the existing highway.
8.2 All workers shall be equipped with Personal Protective Equipments.
8.3 Safety cones and warning signs shall be installed as and where necessary
8.4 Banks man shall be provided for traffic areas.
8.5 Safety officers/worksite supervisor shall be presented at site full time.
NOTE:
The resources & safety requirement may vary as per site conditions, complexity
of the project, climates & etc.
The resources allocation to the job shall be subject to the contractual condition
with client/main contractor but restricted to the relevant standard’s requirement.
