METHODS OF RESEARCH AND PROCEDURES

Since previous studies and perspectives expressed in the literature suggested that

Research Design

The design of this research is descriptive study for it describes current condition

and events. It provides essential knowledge about the nature of objects and persons. Also,

it provides facts on which scientific judgments may be based. The design will fit for the

study as it has the advantage of exploring the current level of earthquake preparedness of

the school community.

Subjects of the Study

The respondents in this study are the people engaged in construction sites namely,

the laborers, foremen, site engineers, etc. The respondents for questionnaire survey will

be randomly selected based on their availability and willingness to take part in the study.

Locale of the Study

The study on the “Assessment on Safety Management on Construction Sites at

Barangay Mangagoy, Bislig City” will be conducted at public construction projects

Sampling Technique and Design

The researchers will use purposive sampling for the study. This sampling method

will be used for selecting the respondents purposively. And the researchers will choose
questionnaire as an instrument for gathering data because it is the most convenient and

effective way to get the necessary information from the respondents. In order to conduct

questionnaire survey, a structured questionnaire will be used for each of the individual

respondents identified randomly. Before going for real data collection, the questionnaire

must be consulted by the adviser to check if there is any change needed to best fit the

questions to get the desired information properly from the respondents.

The researchers will make an approval letter for the registrar which inquires about

the population of students of the said university. And the questionnaire will be given to

the students of USeP – Bislig Campus which includes the preparations they adapted in

response to disasters with a specific focus on earthquake.

Data Collection Procedures

the current safety practices that have been adopted at the construction sites are identified, the problems

in relation to safety practices at the construction sites are gathered and the strategies applied to

overcome problems in relation to safety practices are identified. The projects of the case studies are: 1) A

proposed building complex comprising three basement levels of car parking, seven levels plus one

mezzanine level of podium for car parking, one level for amenities and swimming pool, and one tower of

thirty eight levels for an office at the city of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and 2) A proposed 40-storey

condominium project. The construction projects were selected due to their appropriateness for this

research; they are high rise buildings that facing high level of site safety risk. Also, the projects have to

implement site safety to protect the public and adjacent buildings. Semi-structured interview sessions

with safety officer of the respective project have been conducted. The questions asked during the

interview sessions were developed from findings of the literature review and they were structured

according to the objectives of this research.

The researchers will be using several steps and techniques needed to accumulate

the necessary facts and information required in the study.

1. The researchers will make an approval letter for the registrar, in which will be

validated by the researchers’ adviser.

2. The researchers will make a questionnaire for the respondents.

3. The researchers will distribute the questionnaires to the respondents by personally

handing the questionnaires.

4. The researchers will gather all the given questionnaires.

5. The researchers will analyze and calculate all the data and find its correlation to

each other.

6. The researchers will tabulate all the data and interpret it.
