ABSTRACT

The identified problem in this study is the difficulty of the students in Grade 10 to

understand and speak English in class. Sometimes, the student knows the answer to

the teacher’s question but he or she cannot express his or her answer because of the

difficulty in speaking English. In result, the student will answer in Filipino language

instead of expressing his or her answer in English.

The researchers used a descriptive research design in gathering information

regarding to the title of this research “The Enhancement of English Speaking Skills

Among Grade10 Student in Promoting the Use of the Second Language” This technique

is used to collect data about the respondent’s beliefs and opinions.

This study is limited only to 40 Grade 10 students in San Jose Community High

School, General Mariano Alvarez, Cavite. The researchers used a survey questionnaire

as research instrument. The survey questionnaire asked if the respondents are used to

speak our second language. After determining the students who used our second

language for communication, the survey questionnaire asked for the respondents ‘

opinion about our second language to their communication in their daily life. The

researchers distributed a survey questionnaire to each section in Grade 10 to determine

the uses of speaking second language for their communication in their daily life.

Hypothesis

English language is the universal language. By the use of it, Filipino students

and citizens can communicate to other people internationally. However, most of the

students has difficulty in speaking English because English language is not their

mother tongue. Filipino students can improve their English speaking skills by reading

English books and practicing to speak in English with their family and friends,

Definition of Terms

Diversity is a range of different things. Modernization is the process of adapting

something to modern needs or habits. Development refers to a specified state of growth

or advancement. Economy, the wealth and resources of a country or region, especially

in terms of the production and consumption of goods and services and last, societal is

relating to society or social relations.

METHODOLOGY

This chapter contains the research design, research locale, sampling technique,

research instrument, data gathering procedure and statistical treatment of data that is

used in this study.

Research Design

In this study, the researchers used a descriptive research design in gathering

information regarding to the title of this research “ The Enhancement of English

Speaking Skills Among Grade10 Student in Promoting the Use of the Second

Language” This technique is used to collect data about the respondent’s beliefs and

opinions.

Research Locale

This study was conducted at the San Jose Community High School since the

chosen respondents are students of the school.

Sampling Technique

The study focuses on the Assessment Of English Speaking Skills Among Grade

10 Student in Promoting The Use Of The Second Language. The researchers used

purposive sampling, this method includes the respondents fall under the purpose of the

study and that are effective or not for the study are positively excluded.

Research Instrument

The researchers used a survey questionnaire as research instrument. The

survey questionnaire asked if the respondents are used to speak our second language.

After determining the students who used our second language for communication, the

survey questionnaire asked for the respondents opinion about our second language to

their communication in their daily life.

Data Gathering Procedure

The researchers distributed a survey questionnaire to each section in Grade 10

to determine the uses of speaking second language for their communication in their

daily life.

Statistical Treatment of Data

This technique is used to determine the percentage of our respondents out of

total of Grade 10 students in San Jose Community High School. Through this, the

researchers also determine the percentage of the respondents who are involved.
