purpose of our industry is to wash the denim product which comes from
nationally and internationally. Our industry is situated in Savar, Dhaka. It
occupied the land (6363&@&) square km. Basically our industry is known as
(£&&&@) washing plant. Our Head/corporate office is in Dhaka. In our industry
basically there are few raw material & inventories section, operation section,
checking and packaging section, human resource section, finance section,
Maintenance section and also our industry has more than 630 effective and
efficient employees and they also believe and motivated to work
together.Specially we handle the different type of denim products with numerous
styles which are basically treated with laser, scrubbing or rubbing with different
type of chemical washed. Actually our industry produces best quality of product
according to buyer requirement. So we want to be NO. one leading washing
industry in the country coming soon.

OBJECTIVE OF OUR COMPANY:

Our industry is a washing industry, basically we produce different style of denim product
like denim shirt , denim pant by applying the technical washing method. We use
different types of method like hand Scrubbing, laser treatment, stonewash to produce
various type and style of denim product according to buyer requirement. We also play
an comprehensive role in our economics growth. So our mission is to provide more
better quality of product by using green technology and to have minimal environmental
impact. And our company vision is to expand our industry capacity or established new
washing industry upcoming 2030.

Decision Making Process

Step-1 Recognizing and defining the decision situation/Identify the Problem/Premising

Our Managing Director instructs us to do an Environmental Impact Analysis of our industrial

activity. Based on his order we start working on it and give this task to an Environmental
Consultant Agency. After getting report from Environment Consultant Agency who conducted
an Environmental Impact Analysis about our industrial activities, we find that our activities are
polluting local environment. We present the findings to our Managing Director. Our managing
director becomes very concerned with the findings. He then told us that it is our utmost priority
to solve this problem.

Step-2 Develop alternative solutions:

Apparently we have faced a serious problem so we have to arrange an immediate meeting to find
out the alternative solution to minimize this problem. Ultimately after brainstorming we have
found several following alternative solutions:

Adding Effluent treatment plant, improving Waste management, improving Indoor Environment
Quality, following EPA safeguards to reduce pollution and waste, using green vehicle for
transportation which are more fuel efficient and less polluting.

Step- 3 Evaluating alternative solutions

From the developed alternative solutions we narrow down to two alternatives which seems most
appropriate and will produce maximum result to reduce environmental pollution from our
industrial activity. We prepare SWOT analysis of this two alternatives which are given below:

1. EPA safeguards to reduce pollution

P2: Pollution prevention.
TSCA: Toxic substance control act.

Step-4 Selecting the best Alternative/Make a choice

We will choose the best alternative and give proper justification.

After thoroughly evaluating two alternatives the managing director came to a decision that
installing effluent treatment plant to our industrial unit is the best solution.

1.Installing Effluent Treatment Plant.

Justification
It is more cost effective to install Effluent Treatment Plant. The major reason of local
environmental pollution is that our existing effluent discharge to the environment is not up to
international standard. As our industry is washing industry so it discharges a huge amount of
wastewater to the nature. Due to this huge amount of detrimental wastewater environment
became gradually degraded. Specially the soil contamination and the water contamination is
slowly increasing .Local are worried about day by day increasing environment pollution due to
our industrial activities.
It is aimed at giving emphasis on the present pollution scenario in locality due to our industrial
effluent and the consequent solution of the problem by installation of effluent treatment plant.

Though our industrial activities have a positive impact on the economy of our country, the
increasing industrialization is contributing severe pollution to the environment by the toxic waste
discharge. The liquid effluents from industries are degrading local environment, ecology,
agriculture, aquaculture and public health. So, it is time to give a pause to the pollution and phase
it out gradually to protect the river system.
Effluent treatment plant is required, not only to treat contaminated waste water but also to
recycle and reuse valuable water resources. And ETP is designed to treat a variety of affluence
coming from different areas of the plant. The treatment is designed to remove organic and
inorganic ingredients in suspended and dissolve form to meet the fresh water quality
requirements.
The aim of this chosen alternative is to reduce pollution while maintaining the profitability of the
industry and thereby ensuring the income of the employees as well as the livelihoods of those
who depends on the natural resources that were being impacted. This will also meet international
standard which will place us a better position than competitors in the market and will attract
more foreign buyers.

● Following it will reduce environment pollution significantly

● Our existing system is not fully efficient.
● It will be overall more cost effective.
● We will be recognized as a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)
certified.
● This will also improve working conditions of employees and will also increase their
productivity.
● reduced effluent generation:
After implementing ETP plant our industry will be proclaimed by well function industry that we
expect. We are expecting that our industry will be BGMEA certified.

● reduced water consumption:

As though we set up an ETP plant so we can reuse the wastewater after refine the wastewater.
So we need not much resources of water.
● improved efficiency:
Environment will be less health hazardous free. Workers will be physically fitted and mentally
motivated.

● better use of resources:

Waste (water) management will be improve.

● improved company image:

We will get accreditation by the government. And also we are going to more familiar all over the
world specially to America.

● more effective compliance with legislation.

Step 5. Implementing the best alternative solution:

● First of all resources must be acquired and allocated as necessary for implementing.
We are going to install ETP Plant since this is the most effective one.

● Next assign responsibility for the specific tasks involved.

A team with representatives from key management functions (such as engineering,
finance, human resources, production and/or service) can identify and assess issues,
opportunities, and existing processes. Include contractors, suppliers or other external parties as
part of the project team, where appropriate. The team will need to meet regularly, especially in
the early stages of the project. A cross-functional team can help to ensure that procedures are
practical and effective, and can build commitment to, and "ownership" of, the ETP.
Hold Kick-Off Meeting:
Once the team has been selected, hold a kick-off meeting to discuss the organization's objectives
in implementing an ETP the initial steps that need to be taken and the roles of team members. If
possible, get top management to describe its commitment to the ETP at this meeting. The kick-
off meeting is also a good opportunity to provide some ETP training for team members. Follow-
up this meeting with a communication to all employees.

● Preparing Budget and Schedule

Based on the results of the preliminary review, prepare a project plan and budget. The plan
should describe in detail what key actions are needed, who will be responsible, what resources
are needed, and when the work will be completed. Keep the plan flexible. Think about how you
will maintain project focus and momentum over time. Look for potential "early successes" that
can help to build momentum and reinforce the benefits of the ETP.
The following table summarizes the estimated costs of implementing chosen alternative.

Pollution Prevention Opportunity Implementation Cost(T.K.)

Onsite Effluent Treatment Plant 6,50,00,000

Reuse of rinse water 970,000

Metering of wastewater 215,000

● Secure Resources, Assistance

The plan and budget should be reviewed by top management. In some cases, there may be
outside funding or other types of assistance that you can use (from a trade association, a state
technical assistance office, etc.).

● Involve Employees

Ownership of the ETP will be greatly enhanced by meaningful employee involvement in the ETP
development process. Employees are a great source of information/knowledge on environmental,
health and safety issues related to their work areas as well as on the effectiveness of current
processes and procedures. These employees can help the project team in drafting procedures.

● Monitor and Communicate Progress

As you build the ETP, be sure to regularly monitor your progress against the goals and project
plan, and communicate this progress within the organization. Be sure to communicate the
accomplishments that have been made and describe what happens next. Build on small
successes. Be sure to keep top management informed and engaged, especially if additional
resources might be required.
Regularly check the function of the major components of the ETP in the unit and to evaluate the
overall performance of the system

● We have to set up a progress reports and prepare to make corrections if new problems
should arise.
● Potential risks and uncertainties(threats) that have been identified earlier must be kept in
mind. By taking extra time to reexamine the decision at this point to develop detailed
plans for dealing with this risks and uncertainties, we can counteract this tendency.
● After above actual implementation can begin. We have to make sure subordinates carry
out their part according to plan
We will implement the chosen alternative in a structured way (action plan) so that it becomes
effective and efficient asap.

Step-6 Following up and evaluating the result.

After six month of installing the ETP we follow up and evaluate the result of our decision

Installing the on-site wastewater treatment plant provided an estimated half-yearly waste
reduction of 256,625,000 pounds of wastewater from washers, and 25,380 pounds from
tumblers. This equates to a 95 percent reduction of these waste streams. Reusing rinse waters
provided an estimated half-yearly waste reduction of 142,428,000 pounds (or 53 percent) of
wastewater from the washers.

Half Yearly Savings

The following table summarizes the estimated half-yearly savings derived from implementing
chosen alternative.

Pollution Prevention Opportunities Half Yearly Savings($)

On-site Effluent treatment plant 1,50,00,000

Reuse of rinse waters 40,00,000

Metering of wastewater 590,000

A waste minimisation programme to reduce waste and prevent pollution will result in:

● increased production and sales;

After accomplished the Effluent treatment plant, it is regarded as green credentials increased
enthusiasm of international and generating more business and also maintaining our share in an
increasing competitive market.

In the textile industry there are more compliance with the legislation .one of which eco friendly
compliance is more important as well as effective.

So we can say at last our problem was based on environment pollution specially water pollution ,
That occurred basically because of our industry and then we found more alternative solution.
Then chose the best alternative solution and after selecting the best alternative solution we
implement it at the best way. After implementing solution we benefited more that we before
was. Therefore will be accredited by government as a green industry. Our industry have attracted
more foreign buyers. We also get more order as a result our industry production efficiency,
worker efficiency and effectiveness also comprehensively increased. We can also see installing e
ETP was initially costlier but it served our primary purpose to reduce environmental pollution
and gave our organization eco-friendly status. This status is maintaining our share in an
increasing competitive market. Additionally international buyers order are gradually rising
which is also increasing our profit margin. Our achievement is influencing many nearby textile
industries to do the same . So it is a wise decision that is being made to solve the problem
which positively impacted our industry, improving the environment and economic condition of
local community and country

At this step (say after six months) we will ascertain the extent to which the alternative chosen in
step 4 and implemented in step 5 has worked (evaluating the results)
