Ken-Betwa River Linking Project Receives Green Signal from Panel


i. The Ken-Betwa River Linking Project received clearance from the green panel and Tribal
Affairs Ministry on January 13, 2017.
ii. The ambitious Rs. 9,393 crore project aims to transfer surplus water from the Ken River to
the Betwa basin through concrete canals to irrigate India’s worst drought-prone Bundelkhand
region.
iii. The project will benefit Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh in terms of meeting irrigation,
drinking water and electricity needs of people across 6 districts in the two states.

AkhileshYadav Gets Right over Party’s Symbol “Cycle”

i. The Election Commission (EC) on January 16, 2017 gave its decision that Chief Minister of

Uttar Pradesh, AkhileshYadav would be the owner of the Samajwadi Party Symbol

“Cycle” and also acknowledged him as the national President of the party.

ii. The three-member EC committee headed by NasimZaidi and comprising of other two

judges, O.P. Rawat and A.K. Jyoti gave the decision after the founder of the party Mulayam

Singh Yadav approached EC as President of the party and claimed to be entitled for the symbol.

46 Constituencies in UP to have Urdu Electoral Rolls for the First Time


i. The State Election Commission (SEC) of Uttar Pradesh has decided to include, for the first
time, voter’s list printed in Urdu which was so far only printed in Hindi and English.
ii. In Uttar Pradesh about 46 constituencies in 22 districts will have voters’ list printed in Urdu
as well as Hindi & English, where Assembly elections will be held in February 2017. But in case of
a dispute, the Hindi version of the rolls will be held as valid.

Indian National Army Veteran Nizamuddin Passes Away at 116


i. Indian National Army veteran ‘Colonel’ Nizamuddin died in his native village of Dhakwa in
Azamgarh on February 6, 2017. He was 116
ii. Nizamuddin had also served as the driver and guard of NetajiSubhash Chandra Bose.

Hindi novelist Ved Prakash Sharma passes away


i. Famous Hindi novelist Ved Prakash Sharma was passed away in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh on
February 18, 2017 . He was 62.
ii. Sharma has written nearly 176 novels includes “Qaidi No 100” and “Vardi Wala Gunda“.
iii. He had also written scripts for about half-a-dozen Hindi movies.

Bhartiya Janta Party(BJP) emerged victorious in state election of Uttar Pradesh. Out of
the 403 seats BJP won 325 seats which is much greater than the 202 seats required for
majority.
• This is for the first time since 1980, that any party has crossed the mark of 300 seats
in Uttar Pradesh. BJP is set to come in power after 14 years in Uttar Pradesh. BJP Uttar
Pradesh President Keshav Prasad Maurya has a major role in this victory as he
conducted many rallies across the state.

Third G-20 framework working group meet held at Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh
Third meeting of G20 Framework Working Group (FWG) is hosted by India from March 28 to
March 29, 2017 at Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh under the G-20 German Presidency. The
meeting is co-hosted by Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance, Govt. of India and
Reserve Bank of India (RBI). The meet is arranged to discuss the challenges before the global
economy and their possible solutions.

• The meeting was inaugurated by Union secretary of Economic Affairs Mr. Shaktikanta
Das and he was the chief guest.
Things discussed in FWG
• The current global economic situation for the development of the G-20 nations.
• Policy options required for the G-20 countries, which they can pursue to counter the
important development challenges.
• Clear deliberation about the inclusive growth agenda of G-20 and to formulate a
framework that will enable countries to help frame country specific inclusive growth
policies.
G20 summits in future
• The twelfth meeting of the Group of Twenty (G20) summit is to be held at the city
of Hamburg, Germany.The summit is to be held at 7 and 8 July, 2017.
• In 2018, the summit is to be held at the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina. This is the first-ever
G20 summit to be hosted in South America.

Yogi Adityanath Takes Oath as Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh


Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP, Yogi Adityanath took oath as the 21st Chief Minister of
Uttar Pradesh on March 19, 2017 at Kanshiram Smriti Upvan in Lucknow in the presence of
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah.

• Uttar Pradesh Governor, Ram Naik administered the oath of office and secrecy to
Adityanath.
• Besides, two deputy Chief Minister, nine MoS (independent charge), 24 cabinet ministers
and 13 ministers of state also took the oath.
• Others who attended the swearing in ceremony included LK Advani, Rajnath Singh,
Venkaiah Naidu, Murli Manohar Joshi and Nitin Gadkari.

Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath waives Rs 36,359-crore loan for UP
farmers
i. Uttar Pradesh chief minister, Yogi Adityanath declares Rs 36,359 crore farm loan waivers at
its first cabinet meeting on 4thApril 2017.
ii. The U.P government planned to waive off crop loans of up to Rs 1 lakh of small and marginal
farmers and the cabinet also decided to write off Rs 5,630 crore in non-performing
assets (NPAs) of 700,000 farmers in the state.

UP government to set up 40 Yoga wellness centers in 40 districts


Uttar Pradesh has decided to set up 40 Yoga wellness centers in 40 districts across the state
in this current year. The International Yoga Day (IYD) is celebrated across the world on
21 June.

i. Total out of 40 centres, 23 will be set up at Ayurvedic hospitals 12 at homeopathic and 7 at

ii. The Centre is implementing National AYUSH Mission as a Centrally Sponsored Scheme.

UP government to set up anti-land mafia task force


The Yogi Adityanath government has set up an anti-land mafia task force in Uttar Pradesh.
i. UP government ensure that the land mafia and the encroachers will not be spared and land or
property grabbing can be stopped.
ii. The 4-tier task force would be headed by a principal secretary followed by commissioner,
DM and SDM in their respective areas.
iii. The task force has been empowered to take action even against those who encroach on public
land in the name of religion.

UP government renames Gorakhpur and Agra airports


The Yogi government has renamed the Gorakhpur and Agra airports.
i. The Gorakhpur Airforce Station has been renamed as Mahayogi Goraknath Airport.It
was named after the founder of the Nath monastic movement.
ii. The Agra Airport will be renamed after RSS ideologue Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay airport.
iii. The Department of Disabled Welfare will now be known as 'Divyang Jan Vikas Empowerment'.

UP govt to build music village in Bismillah Khan's honour


The Uttar Pradesh government led by Yogi Adityanath has given its approval to building a music
village named 'Bismillah Khan Sangeet Gram' to honour of legendary Shehnai player Ustad
Bismillah Khan.
i. This project is planned to develop at Varanasi, it will be evolved by Padma Shri Soma Ghosh,
the adopted daughter of the legendary shehnai player.
ii. It will have a museum centre, a training-cum-research centre and many other rarities
associated with musical ‘gharanas.’

Central university for Divyangs to be set up in Uttar Pradesh


Government will set up a Central university for Divyangs in Uttar Pradesh.
i. It was stated by HRD Minister PrakashJavadekar while addressing the convocation function of
Shakuntala Mishra national rehabilitation university, Lucknow.
ii. The Minister mentioned the University Grants Commission has been instructed to make
arrangement for special training of instructors providing education to Divyangs.

Uttar Pradesh govt scraps Samajwadi Pension Scheme


The Uttar Pradesh State Govt., headed by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has stalled the
Samajwadi Pension Scheme of the previous Samajwadi Party Govt. under Akhilesh Yadav. He has
ordered the officials to conduct a detailed review of this scheme to ascertain whether the
beneficiaries are deserving candidates fulfilling the eligibility criterion. The officials have been
given one month’s time to complete this task.

• This decision was taken during second cabinet meeting in which CM Yogi Adityanath was
reviewing various social welfare schemes run by State Welfare Department.
About Samajwadi Pensions Scheme:
• Samajwadi Pension Scheme was launched in year 2014 with an aim to provide financial
assistance to 40 lakh below poverty line (BPL) category families in Uttar Pradesh.
This yojana replaced the erstwhile Rani Laxmibai Pension Yojana.
• Under this scheme, BPL families were entitled to monthly pension of Rs. 500 per
month for one year. The beneficiary family had to follow other conditions which were
related to children education, adult literacy and health standards.
• Post completion of one year, the pension was to be hiked by Rs. 50 every year, till the
total amount reaches Rs. 750 per month. This hike of Rs. 50 was subject to fulfilment of
other conditions as listed above. Non-fulfilment of conditions would result in termination
of benefits.
• The scheme was being administered by Uttar Pradesh State Welfare Department.

UP govt, center sign MOU for Power for All scheme


MOU has been signed between Uttar Pradesh government and Centre for the “Power for All”
scheme in the state.
Highlights:
i. The main purpose of this scheme is to provide 24-hour quality power supply in the state by
October 2018.
ii. To provide electric connection to every house and agriculture field by 2019.
iii. The cost of the project will be 40 thousand crore and 20 thousand crore will be spent till
2018.
iv. UP government has also announced 1912 helpline for the power related complains.Smart
meter will also be installed to stop electricity theft.

Vans’ has launched to rescue ill or injured cows.


i. An ill or injured cow has been taken to either gaushalas (cow shelters) or veterinary doctors
ii. The service will initially be available in Allahabad, Gorakhpur, Lucknow,
Mathura and Varanasi.
iii. Uttar Pradesh is the second state after Madhya Pradesh to have an ambulance service for
cows.

Ahmedabad to host biggest ever International Yoga Day event on June 21


Ahmedabad is going to host biggest International Yoga Day event on 21st June.
i. The event will include the participation of 5 Lakh people.
ii. The event would be inaugurated by the state’s Chief Minister Vijay Rupani and BJP president
Amit Shah.
iii. It would be jointly hosted by the city’s GMDC and AES grounds.

IIT Kharagpur collaborates with British Geological Survey to turn Varanasi into smart
city
Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) - Kharagpur has collaborated with the British
Geological Survey to turn Varanasi into a smart city.
Underground 3D study of Varanasi:
i. Three dimensional geological modelling of the geology under Varanasi will be prepared, that
will help in building new transport and service infrastructure.
ii. The project includes application of geo-scientific methods such as drilling and remote sensing.

Uttar Pradesh government launches JE vaccination drive in 38 districts


Uttar Pradesh (UP) Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has launched a JE immunisation drive in 38
districts on 25 May 2017.
Key Highlights:
i. It has been launched to eradicate Japanese Encephalitis (JE).
ii. This anti-encephalitis drive was launched from Kushinagar district.

Yogi Adityanath govt to merge local bodies of Mathura-Vrindavan, Ayodhya-Faizabad


The Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government decided to merge the local bodies of two
temple towns of Ayodhya-Faizabad and Mathura-Vrindavan on 9th May 2017.
i. Its main aim is to generate more revenue by providing better facilities to the tourists.
