REQUIREMENT IN A BUS AND VAN TRANSPORT TERMINAL

TICKETING FACILITIES

STANDARD REQUIREMENTS FOR A TICKETING FACILITIES


 The standard area per position (ticketing booth) is 4.5 sq. m to 5.5 sq. m.

 One position (ticketing booth) is provided for each 25 to 30 waiting room

STANDARD REQUIREMENTS FOR PUBLIC SEATING
 Bus terminal provide one seat for every 3 passengers. (Planning and

 The average bus capacity between 35-38 passenger. (Planning and
designers hand book)
 For commercial building like Public terminals should have at least 1 sq. m of
floor area to each person. (Planning and Designers hand book)
 The minimum air space shall be provided at least 3 cu. m. for each person.

 The minimum width of any seats should not less than 450mm or more than
480mm. (National Building Codes)

THE ENTRANCE

 The maximum capacity of a free-swinging door is about 60 persons
per minute with expected frequent traffic congestions due to stand
and wait at the entrance area. (Planning and Designers hand book)
 An estimated 40 person per minute flows will be considered as busy
situation with occasional traffic disruptions. (Planning and Designers

CORRIDORS
STANDARD DESIGN AND REQUIREMENTS SHOULD CONSIDER
 The length could be estimated at 50 cm. per person spacing.

 The minimum practical flow through corridor is about 80 persons per
meter width per minute (PMM). (Planning and Designers hand book)
 For a normal walking speed and avoidance of traffic conflict, the flow
volume is equivalent to 15 PMM or less. (Planning and Designers

 For commuter terminal where repetitive peaks and space restraint
occurs, the value could be from 35 to 50 PMM(Planning and
Designers hand book)
