NOTE
1. The value of roof area given in the table is not the whole roof area available at
resident but it is that area of the roof where the sun light is available.
2. And the survey is done at the end of august of this year. So most of the power
consuming items are the one that is used in summer.
3. The calculated energy consumption given in the table is the energy consumption per
day of a particular resident.
4. Still there might be some other activity where the electric power is used e.g. water
heating, charging etc. So we can assume a variation of 500Wh per day in total
energy consumption for each resident.

From the above survey it can be seen that there is a lot of diversity in the energy
consumption and the demand of the people. So we cannot have a single Photovoltaic panel
spread over the roof of the resident’s houses and the electricity is withdrawn from the
single power regulating station through wiring. This is not eco-friendly because each
resident will not withdraw or use equal power due to diverse requirement. That will lead to
the some kind of hesitation within the resident whenever the money is required for the
setting up or servicing of a photo voltaic panel.

So in order to avoid this, we will set up a saperate pv based panel for each resident so that
they will pay for their benift not for others in setting up of the photo voltaic based solar
pannel on their roof.
But from the survey it is seen that each resident has different roof area availabe so in order
to design a different sizes of the phoyovoltaic cell for resident will become costly. So it will
be good if we devide the colony the colony in three parts based on the roof area available.
This will reduce the manufacturing of the variety of different size of photovoltaic cell and
also reduce the cost of the manufacturing.
We devide the colony in three parts as:-
Part1 : Resident having roof area less than 15m2
Part2 : Resident having roof area less than 25m2
Part3 : Resident having roof area greater than 25m2
The minimum roof area in part1 is 9m2

Therefore, there will be three type of design of the photovoltaic based cell so that no one
will be left without the cell.
Design 1: made for the area 9m2
Design 2: made for area 15m2
Design 3: made for area 25m2
The quantity of each design in the colony of 24 resident (assume) contains
Four : for design1
Fifteen : for desing2
Five : for design3

Latitude: +28.4994˚
Longitude: +77.2408˚

Solar radiation data at Latitude 28.499 / Longitude 77.241 which is close to our location is given
as ,for the entire year :-
The production or the process of making a Photo voltaic solar cell is a complicated process and
delicate. The semi conductor used in the PV cell is silicon which has complicated production
procedure so scientist are looking into other semi conductor like amorphous silicon and cadmium
telluride (CdTe) for the same purpose.
The only problem with solar power is that it is slightly more expensive than conventional source of
energy. The efficiency of the PV solar cell is 15%.

The average solar radiation per day = 5.06 kWh/d/m2

For design1
The area of PV cell required = 9m2
Average solar energy available per day = 5.06*9 = 45.54 kWh
Electriciy produced = 45.54 *0.15 = 6.8310 kWh
The no. of resident having design1= 4
Total power produced = 4*6.8310 = 27.324 kWh

For design2
The area of PV cell required = 15m2
Average solar energy available per day = 5.06*15 = 75.9 kWh
Electriciy produced = 75.9 *0.15 = 11.385 kWh
The no. of resident having design2= 15
Total power produced = 15*11.385 = 170.775kWh

For design3
The area of PV cell required = 25m2
Average solar energy available per day = 5.06*25 = 126.5 kWh
Electriciy produced = 126.5 *0.15 = 18.975 kWh
The no. of resident having design3= 5
Total power produced = 5*18.975 = 94.875kWh

Therefore, the total electricty prduced from the Photovoltaic basec solar plant
= 27.324 +170.775 +94.875
= 292.9740 kWh per day
If this amount of electric energy produced from the photovoltaic based solar cell is used for
domestic purpose instead of that electric power which is coming from the power distributing
company e.g. BSES, Reliance etc.

Advantages of using PV based solar cell:-

1. It environment friendly
2. It leads to the saving of the money which is payed as a bill to the power distributing
company, as we decrease the use of elctric power from the private company.

Money saving
The amount of electrical energy produce from the PV cell = 292.9740 kWh
The electric charge = Rs. 6.48 per unit
One unit = 1000Wh
The total amount that we can save per day = 292.970 *6.48 = 1898.445 rupees.

The money save per day , around = Rs. 1900

Cost of setup
Note Solar panel prices differ widely depending on the technology, power, brand and
quality. Thin Film Panels in general cost lower than crystalline silicon panels. Higher Power
Panels have a higher price as they generate more electricity. Good Brands also have a higher
price tag while cheap imported Chinese panels cost less. Solar Panel prices have decreased by
almost 50% in the last 2-3 years and now sell for around Rs.1800-2500 per panel
internationally and should fall to around Rs.1000 in the next 3-4 years. However for small
installations, panels can only be bought from distributors which are more expensive and can
cost you almost 50% more. Note Solar Panels form only a part of the total Solar System Cost.
The total cost of installation, equipment and wiring can cost up to Rs.300, 000/kW.

Total energy produced from PV based solar cell = 292.9740 kWh per day

Assume 8 hours a day the sun light is available at the roof.

Therefore, energy produce per unit time = = 36.6218 kW

Total cost to produce 1kW from PV cell = Rs.300, 000

Total cost to produce 36.6218 kW from PV cell = 300000*36.6218 = 10986540 rupees.

The total cost of set-up of the Photovoltaic based solar cell in C-Block area of Tughlaqabad
(sangam vihar) colony = Rs.10986540

Money saved per day is Rs.1900

The period to get the compensation of investment in set up = = 5783 days.
