Course Outcomes: Through this course students should be able to

• develop the skills of positive and effective business communication

• acquire verbal, nonverbal, listening, and critical thinking skills

• build public speaking skill

• develop necessary business writing skills

Unit I
Staff Development and Training : Reading: collocation based comprehension
passage, Reading to fill missing details, Vocabulary related to staff development and
training, Role play based on staff training, Listening track to match the information
Job descriptions and satisfaction : Vocabulary: identifying useful phrases,
Listening track to find the right option, Speaking to express opinion, Rules and usage
of present perfect and past simple, Writing a report based on the chart interpretation
Unit II
Getting the right job : Group discussion on how to find the right job, Vocabulary:
identifying useful phrases, Listening to identify the key ideas, Writing skills: job
application in email format
Making contact : Listening to extract basic information, Reading to identify key
ideas and filling misiing links, Speaking skills: making a business call
Unit III
Breaking into the market : Reading to choose the correct option, Rules and usage
of infinitive, Role play based on promotional compaign, Listening to choose the best
option, Reading to match title with the content
Launching a product : Listening to extract information, Reading to identify the topic
sentences, Usage of prepositions in phrases, Sentence correction, Speaking skills:
verbal reporting of an event
Unit IV
A stand at a trade fair : Preposition: fill in the blanks, Words often confused,
Listening to complete notes, Reading to identify key ideas, Writing an email
Being persuasive : Persuasive speaking: role play, Matching statements with
content, Rules and usage of first and second conditionals, Listening to fill gaps
Unit V
Starting a business : Rules and usage of prepositions in time phrases, Reading to
choose the right option, Vocabulary related to starting the business, Letter of enquiry,
Group discussion on how to start a new business venture
Financing a start-up : Listening to complete the notes and identify ideas,
Vocabulary wordd related to financing a start up, Reading to identify the used
approach

Expanding into Europe : Reading an email to choose the correct word, Listening
track to complete the notes, Usage of transitional words to link ideas, Proposal
