AFFIRMATIVE 1: Solar panels can reduce the annual cost of electricity in industrial buildings.
Electric bills are a huge part in the industrial sector. The prices and the quality of the
products depend on it. If electricity bills go higher, it means they also need to increase the
products to balance the cost and revenue. Installing solar panels would help in reducing the
electricity bills.
The most efficient commercially available solar panels on the market today have
efficiency ratings as high as 22.5%, It means it reduces almost 20% of the total cost of
electricity. If all industrial sectors would apply solar panels in their structures the cost of living
would develop.
AFFIRMATIVE 2: Solar panel does not require any fuel combustion such as in fossil fuels.
Production of energy is much more convenient with solar panels. It does not require
costly materials such as coal, oil and gas to produce a huge amount of energy. The world spends
around $280 Trillion each year on fuel fossils to produce energy. This amount is higher than the
amount spent on education and military. If we stop using fossil fuels we could have a better
economy.
As we all know, the use of fossil fuels damages our environment and our health inflicting
even greater damage on our economy and our quality of life. Fossil fuel combustion is the
leading contributor to global warming, which, in addition to being a looming environmental and
human catastrophe, could inflict massive economic damage. A 2007 study by researchers at the
Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and the Carnegie Institution at Stanford University
found that global production of three of the six largest global crops experienced significant losses
due to global warming between 1981 and 2002. The study concluded that global wheat growers,
for example, lost $2.6 billion and global corn growers lost $1.2 billion in 2002. Fossil fuels are a
leading source of air and water pollution. The economic cost of air pollution in sectors regulated
under the Clean Air Act has been estimated at $9 trillion between 1970 and 2000, with costs
resulting from pollution-induced early mortality, illness, health care costs and lost productivity.
Solar panels produce energy with the help of the sun. Solar energy can be harnessed in all
areas of the world and is available every day. We cannot run out of solar energy, unlike some of
the other sources of energy. Solar energy will be accessible as long as we have the sun, therefore
sunlight will be available to us for at least 5 billion years when according to scientists the sun is
going to die.
