Elongation concept

Respected sir,

I found concept of elongation in Strength of material book. For axial elongation , I Have tried
one simple example to clear my doubts .From that I conclude that, In ANSYS ,whatever the Max.
directional deformation is nothing but total elongation or change in length. I think ,Max def. Ansys
showing is nothing but addition of all node elongations.

Please go through the snaps.

From Results:

I got the elongation of the bolt for operating condition (Pressure with insulation) as 5.92 mm

And for bolt up condition it is it is compressive -0.967mm ..reducing length

For pressure without insulation it is 5.08mm

Reference for axial elongation:

I tried example for simple bar:

1 m dia, 10 m length ,50000 N force on one face, other fixed.

By formula: Elongation = (50000*10/(pi/4)*1*1*2E11)= 0.003183 mm

By Ansys=

By ansys it showing the similar results ( 0.0031746) , that showing -Max. deformation is nothing but
elongation.
Project :
ONLY BOLT UP

PRESSURE WITH INSULATION:

PRESSURE WITHOUT INSULATION:

Also i found strain concept =

Strain = (Deformation / original length)=(Lf-Lo/Lo)

Deformation = Final - Initial length.

It is Final - Original lengths. Previously i was not sure, but now I m sure.

Sir, Please go through it and guide me further.

Thanking you sir for your tremendous help.

Yours sincerely,
