If the equation of a velocity profile over a plate is v = 5y 2 + y (where v is the velocity in

m/s) determine the shear stress at y =0 . Given the viscosity of the liquid is 8.35 poise.

Given Data: Velocity profile

Substituting y = 0 on the above equation, we get shear stress at respective

depths.

Answer: 0.835 N/m2

Air is forced through a tube of internal diameter of 1.5 mm immersed at a depth of 1.5 cm in a mineral
having specific gravity of 0.85. Calculate the unit surface energy of the oil if the maximum bubb
pressure is 150 N/m2.
Solution :
Given data:

Bubble pressure = 150 N/m2

Pressure of overlying oil N/m2

Answer:-

At the top of a mountain mercury-barometer reading is 56 cm and thermometer reading is -5 0 C. while

the foot-hill the reading is 75.2 cm. assuming dry adiabatic condition determine the height of t
mountain. R=287 joule/[kg(m) deg C abs]
Solution :

Given data: At the top pressure P = 56cm

At the bottom pressure P 0 = 75.2 cm

At the top of the hill temperature T = -5 0 C = 268 K

The pressure and temperature variation for dry adiabatic condition is given as

And
For dry adiabatic Condition n = 1.4. Now solve for (Z-Z 0 )

Determine the porosity for a sandstone using Archie's and Humble equation . The formation water's
resisitivity was 0.5 ohm-meters. The formation rock 100% saturated with this water was 21.05 ohm-
meters.

F = 0.62/f 2.15

f 2.15 = 0.62/F

f2,15 = 0.62/ 42.1

f = 14.06%

A core sample coated with paraffin was immersed in a Russell tube. The dry sample weighed 20.0 gm.
The dry sample coated with paraffin weighed 20.9 gm. The paraffin coated sample displaced 10.9 cc of
liquid. Assume the density of solid paraffin is 0.9 gm/cc. What is the bulk volume of the sample?

Solution: Weight of paraffin coating = 20.9 gm - 20.0 gm = 0.9 gm

Volume of paraffin coating = 0.9 gm / (0.9 gm/cc) = 1.0 cc

Bulk volume of sample = 10.9 cc - 1.0 cc = 9.9 cc
