SUB: Instruction to prevent locomotive(s) rolling down cases.

I. PROCEDURE OF SECURING DIESEL LOCO IN ‘IDLE’ AND ‘DEAD’ CONDITION.

1. Apply SA9, i.e., loco brake. Ensure brake cylinder pressure 3.5 kg/cm2 in ALCO loco’s and 5.2
kg/cm2 in HHP loco’s
2. Ensure Throttle handle in ‘IDLE’ position and GF switches in ‘OFF’ position.
3. ECS in ‘IDLE’ position in ALCO loco’s and Isolation switch in ‘ ISOLATE’ position in HHP loco’s
4. Ensure Selector handle in ‘OFF’ position.
5. Ensure Reverser in ‘NEUTRAL’ position and keep the handle in personal custody.
6. Ensure hand brakes of the loco in ‘APPLIED’ position.
7. Ensure the skids/wedges are placed under the wheels on both sides of the loco in tight
condition.
8. Close the windows and doors of the locomotive.
In addition to the above precautions, the following two points are also to be ensured for securing
the locomotive in ‘Dead’ condition.
1. Shut down the loco as per procedure.
2. ‘OPEN’ the battery knife switch and enter date and time of shut down in the log-book.
II. CAB changing Procedure in MU (ALCO) Locos :

 Secure the locos with hand brakes and wooden wedges.

Setp 1: Changes to be done in Leading loco

I. Apply SA9, Ensure brake cylinder pressure is 3.5 kg/cm2


II. Ensure A9 in ‘RELEASE’
III. Keep Reverser in ‘NEUTRAL’ and remove it
IV. Keep Selector handle in ‘OFF’ position
V. Switch ‘OFF’ ‘GF’ switches in both control stands, Switch ‘OFF’ EPG switch
VI. Close A9 COC in working control stand
VII. Close BP ¾’’ or 1” COC.

Step 2: Go to trailing loco


I. Apply SA9.
II. A9 handle in ‘RELEASE’ position
III. Insert Reversor in ‘NEUTRAL’ position.
IV. Keep Selector handle in ‘ONE’ position
V. Switch ‘ON’ MFPB1&MFPB2, MCB1&MCB2, GF switches in both control stands
VI. Switch ‘ON’ EPG Switch
VII. ‘Open’ A9 COC in working control stand and Ensure A9 COC ‘CLOSE’ in Non working control
stand.
VIII. ‘Open’ BP ¾’’ COC or 1’’ COC
IX. Keep MU2B in ‘LEAD’ position

Step 3: Again go to Leading Loco


I. Release SA9 handle
II. 2 Keep MU2B in ‘Trail’ position
III. 3 Switch ‘OFF’ MFPB1&MFPB2 , MCB1&MCB2

Note : Before moving the loco’s ensure Hand brake ‘Release’ and Skids/Wooden
wedges are removed
III. CAB changing Procedure in MU (HHP) WDG4 Locos :
 Secure the loco with hand brake and wooden wedges.
Step 1: Changes to be done in leading loco
I. Keep Throttle in ‘IDLE’ position
II. Keep Reverser in ‘NEUTRAL’ and remove
III. Move Auto brake handle from ‘Run’ to ‘FS’ position
IV. Ensure brake cylinder pressure 5.2 kg/cm2 (Direct brake in full application)
V. Keep Lead/Trail switch in ‘TRAIL’ position.
VI. Move Direct brake in From Application’ to ‘Release’ position
Step 2: Go to trailing loco
I. Insert Reversor in ‘NEUTRAL’ position
II. Ensure Throttle in ‘IDLE’
III. Move Auto brake handle from ‘FS’ to ‘Run’ position
IV. Apply Direct brake in ‘Full Application’ position
V. Keep Lead/Trail switch in ‘LEAD’ position
VI. Switch ‘ON’ ERS, FP/CONT, GF SWITCHES in long hood console

Step 3: Again go to Leading Loco


I. Switch ‘OFF’ ERS, FP/CONT, GF SWITCHES in long hood console

Note: 1. Ensure All the Non Working Consoles of both locos Reversors:
‘Neutral’, Throttle : ‘IDLE’, Auto brake : ‘FS, L/T Switch : ‘Trail’.

2. Before moving the loco’s ensure Hand brake ‘Release’ and Skids/Wooden
wedges are removed
IV. Cab changing Procedure in WDP 4D - Medha Make

 Secure the locomotive with hand brake and wooden wedges.

Step 1: Changes to be made in Leading console


I. Keep Throttle in ‘IDLE’ position
II. Keep Reverser in ‘NEUTRAL’ and remove
III. Move Auto brake handle from ‘Run’ to ‘FS’ position
IV. Ensure brake cylinder pressure 5.2 kg/cm2 (Direct brake in full application)
V. Keep Lead/Trail switch in ‘Trail’ position.
VI. Move Direct brake handle from ‘Application’ to ‘Release’ position
VII. Switch ‘OFF’ BL key (Press and turn clock wise and remove BL key)
VIII. Switch ‘OFF’ ERS, FP/CONT, GF Switches, Dynamic circuit breaker on driver desk
IX. Switch ‘OFF’ GF CB

Step 2: Go to Trailing console


I. Switch ‘on’ ERS, FP/CONT, GF switches, dynamic circuit breaker on driver desk
II. Switch ‘ON’ GF CB
III. Insert Reversor in Neutral position
IV. Ensure Throttle in Idle
V. Move Auto brake handle from ‘FS’ to ‘Run’
VI. Apply Direct brake handle from ‘Release’ to ‘Application’
VII. Move L/T switch from ‘Trail’ to ‘Lead’ .
VIII. Insert BL key and switch ‘ON’ (Press and turn anti clock wise)
IX. Classification light switch : Leading cab : on Trailing cab : OFF
Cab fans & light switch : Leading cab : on Trailing cab : OFF

Note : Before moving the loco’s ensure Hand brake ‘Release’ and Skids/Wooden
wedges are removed
V. Cab changing Procedure in WDP 4D MU -Siemens Make

 Secure the locomotive with hand brake and wooden wedges.

Step 1: Changes to be made in Leading console


I. Keep Throttle in ‘IDLE’ position
II. Keep Reverser in ‘NEUTRAL’ and remove
III. Move Auto brake handle from ‘Run’ to ‘FS’ position
IV. Ensure brake cylinder pressure 5.2 kg/cm2 (Direct brake in full application)
V. Keep Lead/Trail switch in ‘Trail’ position.
VI. Move Direct brake handle from ‘Application’ to ‘Release’ position
VII. Switch ‘OFF’ BL key (turn clock wise )
VIII. Switch ‘OFF’ GF switches on driver desk
IX. Switch ‘OFF’ GF CB

Step 2: Go to Trailing console


I. Switch ‘ON’ GF switch on driver desk
II. Switch ‘ON’ GFCB
III. Insert Reversor in ‘NEUTRAL’ position
IV. Ensure Throttle in ‘IDLE’
V. Move Auto brake from ‘FS’ to ‘Run’
VI. Apply Direct brake handle, From ‘Release’ to ’Application’
VII. Keep Lead/Trail switch from ‘Trail’ to ‘Lead’
VIII. Switch ‘ON’ BL key (turn anti clock wise)
IX. Classification light switch : Leading cab : on Trailing cab : OFF
Cab fans & light switch : Leading cab : on Trailing cab : OFF

Note : Before moving the loco’s ensure Hand brake ‘Release’ and Skids/Wooden
wedges are removed
