1.0 INSTALLATION OVERVIEW

This manual covers the Wingtip and Winglet installation on King Air 200 models, King Air 300
models, Army C-12 and RC-12. It does not include models equipped with tip tanks.

This installation manual provides instructions for removing the wingtip from the aircraft and replacing
it with a BLR wingtip and winglet assembly. The aircraft maintenance manual should be available for
reference. For best results, the wingtip and winglet installation should be performed by a mechanic
accomplished in sheet metal repair and modification. Refer to Appendix C for OEM installations.

Ensure the aircraft is adequately defueled prior to beginning installation.

STEP 4

Per the King Air maintenance manual, remove de-icer

boot from wingtip. Apply solvent and peel back,
allowing solvent to work before carefully pushing back
the boot edge with a plastic scraper.
DO NOT TEAR THE BOOT.

Work the boot back until it is 2 - 4 inches beyond the

production splice at WS291 where the wingtip is
attached.

STEP 5

Through the outboard access panel at WS323,

disconnect cannon plug from lighting power supply.

NOTE: In the case of a central power supply, cut the

wire about six inches outboard of the main wing in order
to have adequate slack for installation of new
connection. (See KIT170060)

Remove wires from grounding stud and free conduit

from the plastic wire ties. Loop and secure excess wire.

EXISTING WINGTIP REMOVAL CONTINUED

STEP 8

It is necessary to verify the position of the OEM wingtip before installing the BLR wingtip/winglet.
Check the colinearity of the three aileron hinges using the following methods:

Verify the hinge locator bar length by inserting

the inboard end into the middle hinge bracket
and fastening the outer end at the outboard
hinge. Where necessary to match the span
between hinges, shim the middle hinge
between the tool and bearing support.

Attach the small hollow bolt supplied with the

wingtip positioning tool to the inboard hinge
and the larger hollow bolt to the outboard
hinge. String wire through the center of the
three hinges, from outboard to inboard, and
pull tight; pull an additional 1/2” to ensure tautness and secure.

Ensure the wire is centered in the center hinge. If the wire touches the edge of the bearing
at any point, STOP WORK and call BLR Aerospace for specific installation instructions.

Note the location of the wire within the center hinge (the new wingtip will be positioned using this
location) and the orientation of the hinge bracket. If shims were used, note the distance (this
distance will be used to establish the inboard/outboard location of the hinge on the new wingtip).

Remove the positioning tool.

Hold a rigid, straight tool under the rear spar of the

wing and wingtip as shown. The rear spar should be
perfectly straight, with no gap. If the wingtip is tilted
slightly up, measure the distance of tilt. If it appears
to be tilted down, place the tool above the rear spar
and measure the tilt.

If there is any measurable tilt to the wingtip, STOP WORK and call BLR for guidance.
(Even a small difference in the wingtip will be exaggerated by the addition of winglets.)

STEP 11

Along the upper and lower surfaces at WS291, punch

out the center of the existing rivets in the wingtip
production splice (including the skin tab-outs), pick out
the lockring and drill out.

Drill carefully to avoid damaging any underlying wiring,

fuel lines, fuel bladder or other components and
systems.

NOTE: Avoid damaging or enlarging holes as rivets are drilled out.

Use drill stop set at .50” max.

WARNING:
Use extreme caution when drilling out the rivets in the
noserib. A fuel cell is immediately behind the thin
skins, making this area very sensitive. We suggest
that a sharp #40 drill bit be used to drill out the
lockring ONLY, then carefully punch out the center
stem.

STEP 12

Drill out rivets on outboard half of upper and lower splice

angles at the rear spar, as well as the web doubler.

CAUTION: Do not drill into the integral fuel tank

inboard of the skin splice at the rear spar.

3.0 BLR WINGTIP/WINGLET INSTALLATION

STEP 15

Remove old sealant and paint from lap joint and clean
entire production splice in preparation for securing the
new wingtip. Remove tapered shims from OEM trailing
edge and retain for possible re-use.

STEP 16

If necessary, trim OEM skin flush with casting so it will not

interfere at overlap. Measure .850 inboard from edge of
casting and mark the OEM wing. (This represents the
minimum overlap between new wingtip and wing.)

STEP 17

Bolt the wingtip support arm to the center hole in each of

the two access panels just inboard of the wingtip on the
underside and retract outboard adjustable set screw.

NOTE: Do not torque. Attach tool with screws finger-

tight.

Place the top portion of the wingtip positioning tool on top

of the wing, directly above the support arm and 1” from
skin edge. Keep the tool clear of the overlap. Clamp
tightly in place.

BLR WINGTIP/WINGLET INSTALLATION CONTINUED

STEP 18

Create a template of the hole pattern (top and bottom) for

installation of the new wingtip using 1/16” clear plastic
(Plexiglas). Shim with another layer of plastic, about 4” wide,
set back about 1” from wingbox edge. (At the leading edge, a
spacer is not needed.) Mark and cut template around
positioning tool, for drilling wingtip with tool installed.

Matchdrill the plastic from leading to trailing edge.

STEP 19

Carefully slide the new wingtip on until it is fully in

contact with the wing casting. Align wingtip rear spar
with existing wing rear spar (trimming angles as
required for clearance). Ensure at least 0.85” overlap
of new wingtip to end rib, upper and lower side of
trailing and leading edges. Use the outboard tool
screw to adjust up and down.

NOTE: It is optional to use straps around the skin

overlap at WS291 to keep the leading edge tight
against the wing. If straps are not used, extra
attention to this area is required.

STEP 20

Pre-position the retained outboard hinge bearing

assembly to the new wingtip, centering on the upper
and lower tab and snug against the trailing edge of
the spar (use strap, if required). Place the locator bar
(and any shims from initial measurement) between
the two outboard hinges and tighten the fastener at
the outboard hinge.

CAUTION: Do not over-torque, but close any visible gap at outboard hinge.
Ensure machined boss for bearing is outboard.

STEP 21

Using the hinge assembly as a drill template, drill

holes for the eight fasteners in the rear spar first.
Remove hinge, deburr holes and rivet hinge to
wingtip.

Remove the aileron bonding jumpers and hardware

to make room for riveting.

STEP 22

Replace the salvaged circular access cover and mark

angles for installation of eight rivets, maintaining
clearance from edge of cover and a 2D edge distance
from angle edge and radius of bend in angle.

Drill angles. Chip chase and rivet angles.

STEP 23

Replace the hinge locator bar, including any shims

used in Step 8. Attach the small hollow bolt
supplied with the wingtip positioning tool to the
inboard hinge, and the larger hollow bolt to the
outboard hinge. String wire through the center of
the three hinges, from outboard to inboard, and
pull tight; pull an additional 1/2” to ensure tautness
and secure.

Adjust the vertical and horizontal position of the wingtip to match the position of the wire in the middle
hinge from Step 8. Maintain a minimum overlap of .85” at wingtip-to-wing overlap.

Ensure that rear spar is straight.

STEP 24

Shim the rear spar with the three shims; align with
OEM rear spar angles.

Shim with KAW170000-21 first (use of the OEM

shim is acceptable). Place KAW170050-29
between the long shim and the skin, up against
the edge of the spar skin splice and flush with the
angle trailing edge.

From the inside, place the

KAW170050-27 shim between the
rear spar and long shim, with a
reverse taper as shown.

STEP 27

When:

1) the wingtip rear spar is in line with the wing,

2) the hinge wire matches the position from Step 8,
3) the stringer stops up against the casting,
4) the minimum overlap is maintained,
5) and the wingtip leading edge is tight against the aircraft leading edge,

the wingtip is ready for drilling and attachment. Ensure ED on all holes to be drilled.

Verify ALL LOCATIONS, sizes, penetrations and edge distance before drilling.

CAUTION: Possibility of hidden fuel lines at the main spar require use of .5” max drill stops.

Drill and cleco the rear spar first.

Matchdrill the two screw holes, one each on top

and bottom of wingtip and insert screws to hold
wingtip steady.

STEP 27 (con't)

Transfer the remaining rivet holes around top and

bottom of skin splice using a #21 drill bit and install
#21 draw clecos. (You will have to remove the
positioning tools to transfer the last holes.)

NOTE: Use of CherryMax rivets in place of solid rivets is permissible;

use of solid rivets is preferred where access permits.

Oversized rivets may be used where necessary, if edge distance allows.

STEP 28
.
Locate four (4) additional holes to attach spar
splice skin to the top and bottom of the wing per
the drawing (KAW200000-1). Holes should be
within +/-.015 of the existing fasteners’ mean
centerline (avoid the web in the center of the spar
cap) and spaced equally at approximately 1.00”
pitch (see drawing). Maintain at least 2-diameter
clearance between fasteners and doubler edge.
[If the gap between upper and lower surfaces
between the four new attachment points is larger
than .015”, shimming is required.]

Ensure there is minimum edge distance for spar

and winglet skin.

CAUTION: Any damage caused by mis-drilling in this area is not easily repairable.

Differences between the two installations are summarized below; see drawing KAW170080 for
complete installation instructions.

STEP A1.1

Remove winglet light lens and position the light

assembly near the open cavity.

Incandescent: Connect wiring harness to the

back of the light assembly and thread the
remainder through the grommeted hole in the rib
and through the lightening hole into the wingtip.

LED: Thread the wire harness that is attached to

the combination light through the hole in the rib
and through the lightening hole into the wingtip.
NOTE: If required, it is permissible to carefully
open up the hole in the rib to 1.25” MAX, as
required for LED wire harness connector.
Enlarged hole must have caterpillar grommet re-
installed.

STEP A1.2

Through the access panel at WS323 in the

wingtip, lay the OEM wire harness on the standoff
and attach with a plastic wire tie. Connect the
cannon plug and grounding stud.

Trim outer conduit of previous wiring harness and

form a service loop with the extra length of wire,
securing it to the structure to prevent chafing.

APPENDIX C

This appendix applies to pre-licensed HBC OEM aircraft only and not to licensed aircraft. This
appendix applies to new HBC OEM aircraft installs using approved BLR wingtips and winglets.

OEM HBC will use qualified and approved production serialized assembly fixtures to locate,
position, align in proper aircraft coordinates, to install BLR wingtips and winglets on the model
King Air 200. These approved production assembly fixtures are specifically called out in
HBC OEM work task instructions.

The procedural steps defined in BLR-200-700 document “Wingtip and Winglet Installation
Manual for Beechcraft King Air 200” are replaced with HBC OEM production build plan
and will be used as reference information only.
