Toefl is one of some requirement for graduated In University. There are some format and content
of Toelf. First, Toefl Paper-Based test that is like a common based test. Second, in late 2005 Toefl internet-
based test has replaced Paper-Based test for some countries. This computer-based test, has been used to
some reason, the one is for practically. There are some content on both based format such as Listening,
Structure and Written Expression, Reading Comprehension and Writing.

In University of Airlangga, minimum score to pass the test was 450 and some people use Toefl
paper-based test for doing toefl test. In fact, there are few student has passed toefl test at first semester.
There are some reason why many student did not passed the test such as limited time, non-English based
language, student does not understand how the test work and many more. So, this research is to solve
the difficulties of doing toefl in universities.

For every graduate have different standard score. For Sarjana, minimum score was 450 it is
because after graduated, student may study in foreign countries that toefl score is needed. For magister,
minimum score was 500, it is because there is requirement for this graduate to publish a journal to
international. Unlike sarjana and magister program, for Doctor minimum score was 550 it is because they
need to doing international research in other countries.

To pass the test, the student must doing some preparing before doing the test. Because Toefl test
time was limited, the student must take a practice minimum 1 month before their test date because it
effected on how student can solve the question on time. For listening test, student may take a practice by
watching English moves that can improve their listening skill. Then, for reading test, student may take a
practice by reading international paper or journal because it effected on how fast they can understand its
topic.

One reason why Toefl test was important, because toefl test can improve our English skills.
Furthermore, toefl test was the one of some our requirement for graduating in university. We can improve
our toefl skill such as reading and writing by practice its skills. Second, we can watching English movies for
improve learning skill. By practicing our English skill, Insha’Allah we may be able to passing the standard
score of toefl test.
