1.

Using class notes, as well as your annotations from TSIS, Chapter 6, explain in your own
words what it means to:

- Plant a Naysayer in your argument

To plant a naysayer in your argument you are informing what stakeholder may say to oppose
your claims and why they believe in their point of view. However, inputting this in your own
argument, as a writer, can put these naysayers in their place as to why your point of view is more
valid than their own.

- Make a concession in your argument

To create a concession in your argument one must combine the naysayer’s claim with your own
claim. This would include subordinates such as “although,” “but,” “however,” etc. This method
of including subordinators will develop your sentence in a formal approach of introducing the
naysayer’s perspective.

2. On a scale of 1-5, 5 being very confident and 1 being not at all confident, where would you
rate your understanding about how to plant a naysayer or make a concession IN YOUR OWN
ESSAY? Explain.

On a scale of 1-5 of having confident in understanding how to plant a naysayer or make a

concession in my own essay, I can proudly say I can rate myself at a 4. The blocking card tool
can help me make my claims even stronger and in my opinion it is an easy, formal method that
could be applied into my argument. The idea of using blocking card was very organized; first
you address your claim, next mention who your stakeholders are, then lastly say a claim that a
naysayer might say. After writing all of that information down you can now make up your
concession since it is a combination of those sections.

3. Based upon your BLOCKING CARDS from today's class, write a 1-2 paragraph SECTION
where you plant the naysayer perspective and make a concession. Draft it below.

To plant the naysayer perspective in my argument to create a concession, they use of

index card, “blocking cards,” would be a valuable tool to use. In the first blocking card it must
provide one of your claim that the stakeholder will oppose to in your argument. But you have to
remember that it must be claim that supports your thesis. If it does, write in down on the
blocking card. Now you must write another claim that will not be your own but what a naysayer
will say to object your idea. The should be behind your claim, in the back of the card and should
be at least 1-3 sentences. After this is finished you can finally write the purpose that the naysayer
objects you, it should be a quote or any text that had been read relevant to this subject. Consider
the evidence that the naysayer will use to support themself. Lastly, after the following above is
completer you are now able to begin your concession. Even though this may seem like the
easiest part of the process, it is also the most important part of your assignment because this is
how you will stand your ground and prove to the audience that you are the right one of the
argument. This comeback needs to be strong.

4. After drafting your concession paragraph(s), look at your outline. And answer these questions:

A) Do you think you will need to rearrange your ideas in the outline? If so, why. If not, why not?

I believe I need to rearrange the majority of my ideas in my outline because when I was
first writing my outline I had writers block. I believe my thoughts all came together after I had
finished my research, because I now have further knowledge on the claims that Luiselli had
made in her essay and I can strengthen my argument with the new knowledge I now own. In
addition, after drafting my concession paragraphs had made me realize that I should rearrange
how I had organized my claims as well. Using concessions towards the end of my argument is
one way I can strengthen my next claim as long as it connects with it.

B) Where, exactly, do you plan on integrating your concession into your essay? After what
claim? What paragraph? Explain your plan for revision.

I planned on developing my thesis into a concession because I believe I can strengthen

my previous thesis by clarifying who says what, it is more clear to identifying what the
stakeholders say and what I say individually. Aside from this, I was planning to also include a
concession in 3rd claim, which had the concept of find a solution to end child exodus, and this
means the government must end the priority juvenile docket or extend time for these children to
find a lawyer. To integrate this idea, I must use my research of what the Obama Administration
had claimed in order to pass this law. This includes limiting the time span for their own
convenience and to reduce the migrants that have been massively coming to the United States
through the southern border. However, the reduce days has courts miscommunicate with the
migrants that are in custody because they “mistakenly” notify the migrant of their court hearing
date and when they are not present they are marked absent and have no choice but to be
deporting for the court’s fault.

5. What is your plan for writing the first draft of the essay? * Due Thursday

My plan for writing the first draft of my essay is to continue revising my outline tonight and
clear my claim that Susie have question or suggested to clarify. Wednesday in the morning I will
get up early before class to start on my introduction in hopes of finishing it before the start of my
class, then after my classes of the day I will focus on finishing the majority on my essay with the
help of my revised outline and the concession noted that we had went over.
