At recio, we see fashion differently – what is the ere the

materials come from, why we made it made to the way
it’s worn. We see it as encouraging the unique in
everyone

Our process starts with scrap waste sourced from mass clothing manufacturers. Using every
last thread, we create handmade clothing and accessories signed by their Cambodian makers.

Our family of employees is made up of individuals with spirit, drive and dreams. Together,
we’ve built a supportive environment where everyone expresses themselves freely, learns
new skills, and gains confidence in what they do.

We believe style is more than what you wear – it’s what you choose to be a part of.

Community: its all about real connection, real people, real

CRUELTY FREE
Cruelty Free means no leather or animal parts were used in the making of the
item.

We do not include items made with silk or wool under cruelty free items
because many vegans consider the use of any animal by-product to be off
limits.

ECO-FRIENDLY MATERIALS
Eco-friendly materials are materials whose impact on the environment is less
than traditionally used materials. These can include tencel, organic cotton,
hemp, bamboo, cork, and more.

Eco-friendly does not not mean these materials don't come with their own
environmental repercussions, but rather that their impact is less and they are
more sustainable than traditionally used materials.

ECO-FRIENDLY DESIGN PRODUCTION

Includes but isn't limited to:

-Eco-friendly dye processes which could include the use of natural dyes and/or
waterless dye transfer process, like sublimation which uses a heat to turn a solid
to gas and transfers color to fabric, rather than using water.

-Zero-waste pattern cutting which is a process whereby clothing patterns are

methodically organized on fabric and cut in a way to limit excess material waste
and any waste that remains is put to use.

FAIR TRADE/WAGE
Fair trade is a certification in and of itself and is a term often misused. It can be
costly for small businesses to obtain this certificate and the term has become
controversial because of abuses and confusion surrounding the meaning.

In this case we are using the term 'Fair Trade/Wage' to include when a designer
has indicated to us that they have a commitment to pay their workers above a
living wage for the region they live and work in.

HANDMADE
Handmade, especially in a way to preserve artisanal traditions and employ
people local to their communities.

LOCAL MATERIAL SOURCING

When an item is made from materials sourced directly from the location in which
the product is made. This bolsters local economies and cuts down on the massive
C02 emissions from shipping materials all over the world.

Globalization means that a your jeans likely travelled in a shipping container

across the ocean (or several oceans) using the dirtiest fossil fuels to power it.
LOCAL PRODUCTION
When items are produced close to where they are designed, there are several
positive benefits—supporting the local economies and creating jobs, maintaining
talent and retaining skills and craft within communities, and reduction of CO2
emissions in shipping.

MADE IN SMALL QUANTITIES

Products made in low volume and small runs. One of the fashion industry's most
pressing issues is a consumer dependency on chasing what’s trendy for the
cheapest price. The 'fast fashion' system creates low quality clothing that is
made to be worn only worn a few times, falls apart and is destined for landfills.

Designers who produce their collections on a made-to-order, handmade,

season-less or fewer seasons than in typical fashion calendar, and who work with
factories who produce small runs are included in the "Made in Small Quantities"
category.

NON-DISPOSABLE AND WELL-MADE

"Buy Less, choose well, make it Last." -- Vivienne Westwood

The first, easiest and most important step to shopping ethically is not just buying
hemp t-shirts. Buying less and buying better quality clothes,is euqually
important.

Less than 20% of what charities receive is actually resold—the rest goes to
landfills. Americans alone send 10.5 million tons of clothing to landfills a year.
Between 1999 and 2009 alone, textile trash rose 40% because of the
proliferation of fast fashion.
RECYCLED
Recycled means the materials have be chemically altered and reused from a
previously used object. For instance, when a metal from old jewelry is melted
and re-used to make an new piece of jewelry.

UPCYCLED
To upcycle means that materials used to make a piece were obtained from
another previously used object, without being chemically altered.

For instance if you make a new jacket out of material from vintage pants, that's
upcycling!

ZEROWASTE
There are generally two strategies for zero-waste fashion: creative pattern making that uses
100% of a given material, and generating garments from remnant materials. The only
approach that we felt truly honored our sustainability philosophy was a marriage of the two.

Our design team frequents the remnant material markets to scavenge through piles of factory
castoffs before they end up in landfills. Creativity is key, as size, color, texture, and material
continually vary. But we don’t stop there. designers work side by side with the production
team to plan collections that incorporate even the tiniest scraps into original looks..

Working in this fashion leaves 2-3% waste, which is pretty good, considering a typical
factory can average 40%.
