a. Pre listening and speaking:


1. Teacher shows pictures. (refer to PP slides)

b. While listening and speaking:


1. Teacher recalls ‘Wh’ questions and writes them on the board.
2. Teacher checks understanding by asking pupils to give meaning of the ‘Wh’
question words.
3. Teacher writes 4 questions on the board.
4. Teacher explains to pupils what those questions mean and how to answer them.
5. Teacher drills pupils how to ask and answer questions with correct word stress
6. Teacher practises asking and answering questions with the pupils.

c. Post listening and speaking:


1. Pupils work in pairs.
2. Pupils practice talking about the pictures by asking and answering questions.
3. Teacher randomly calls a few pairs to do the speaking activity in front of the

Time
a. Pre reading:
(60 minutes) 1. Teacher shows her magic bag with salted fish inside it.
2. Teacher plays a music and pupils pass the bag around.
3. When the music stops, the pupil who holds the magic bag guess what is inside
the bag. Pupils may touch and smell the bag.
4. Teacher may give clues if necessary. Teacher repeats the steps until the pupils
are able to guess correctly.
5. Teacher tells the pupils that they are going to learn the steps to make salted
fish.

b. While reading:
1. Teacher gets the pupils to read the text.
2. Teacher asks questions orally to check understanding.
3. Teacher gets pupils’ attention to the steps to make salted fish.
4. Teacher introduces sequence connectors.
5. Teacher tells the pupils that we use sequence connectors at the beginning of
sentences to sequence ideas/steps. (First, next, finally)
6. Teacher gets the pupils to work in pairs.
7. Teacher distributes task sheet.
8. Pupils rearrange the steps in correct sequence.
9. Teacher checks pupils’ answers.

c. Post reading:
1. In pairs, pupils answer the comprehension questions.

Task sheet

Number the pictures. Then, number the sentences.

Then, sprinkle the fish with a lot of salt.

First, cut open and clean the fish.

2. Teacher tells the pupils that cursive writing is a style of writing in which all the

4. Then, teacher gets the pupils to write these words in cursive writing. (fund,

b. While writing:
1. Teacher gets the pupils to read the text. (refer to TB page 6)

4. Teacher distributes worksheet. Pupils complete the invitation in cursive writing.
7. Teacher checks pupils’ answers.

5. Teacher tells the pupils that these words are examples of common nouns.
6. Pupils work in groups.
7. Using a mind map, pupils list the things that they may see in a night market and
in a park.
8. Pupils present their work.
9. Teacher checks pupils’ answers.

c. Production:
1. Teacher explains to pupils how to do the next activity.

5. Teacher tells the pupils that characters are an important part of a story. They
help the writer to tell the story. Many stories are remembered because they have
great characters.

6. Teacher gets the pupils to read the story. (refer to TB page 10)
7. Teacher asks a few questions pertaining to the characters in the story to check
understanding.
Eg: Who is Mrs. Mann? Do you think that Mrs. Mann is cruel? Do you like Mrs.
Mann? Do you think that Oliver feels happy? Why did Oliver need to work at a
young age? Who is Mr. Bumble?

8. Teacher highlights a few words in the story (homeless, workhouse, caretaker)


and get the pupils to guess the meaning.

9. Teacher gets the pupils to work in groups.


10. Teacher distributes worksheet.
11. Pupils match the words to make sentences about Oliver Twist and Mrs. Mann.

12. Teacher discusses the answers.
