Reading/Language Arts
Our learning targets for reading this week have included:
*learning about contractions with ‘ve, ‘s, ‘re,
* r controlled vowel, er, ir, ur
*blending words.
*rhyming words
*understanding syllables
*understanding fact and opinion; learning to monitor and
clarify when we read.
*learning new vocabulary.
*being able to use verbs am, are, is, was, and were properly. We now
understand that they are used to show now or past tense!
Our Writing learning target has focused on writing an argument or
opinion! We worked together to analyze our prompt and make sure we
knew what we were writing about and what needed to be included. We
also worked together to use our text to jot down reasons for our opinion.
As we wrote, we wrote our own sentences! Then we learned to restate our
opinion! Finally, we used our new writing teams to help us make sure our
work was our best! We read and looked for periods, capitals, spelling on
our high frequency words, and ways to add more details! It was so fun to
watch them do this!!!!
Our 2nd writing target which goes into next week is focused on writing an
expository piece. Our topic is seasons and what we are learning! More to
come!
